Wrap Removal
Wrap Removal
I got a used bumper from a fellow 6speeder and its getting prepped and sprayed. My current bumper has a wrap on it...which I'm leaving on when removed. So when I put the new bumper it will not have a wrap. My hood and fenders however are wrapped and it is original with the car. The film is looking a bit old now and I want to remove it since the replacement bumper is not wrapped.
How hard or difficult will it be to remove the film from the hood, fenders and mirrors? Should I use a heat gun to warm it up? I fear the paint coming up...if that is a possibility.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

I would not put film on a freshly painted bumper until the paint cures, which can be a month or two. Otherwise if you take the film off, the paint probably will lift.
To remove the film
First off make sure that nothing has been repainted on the car.
Suggest parking in direct sunlight and get surface hot, don't use heat gun. Suggest hair dryer or better yet, a steam machine. Pull old film off slowly and on a 45 degree angle. It should come right off.
After you remove the film you want to clean it up the leftover adhesive. I found 3M adhesive remover, clay, then polish to remove any surface swirls. Follow manufacture instructions for applying, which is probably cleaning area with rubbing alcohol.

Thanks.....I will try on the door handles and the door edge first to make sure I get the "procedure" right before I tackle the hood and fenders.
The newly painted bumper will not get wrapped. I'm going to wait to have it done...if at all. I really don't drive the car very often....not a DD so spending the money on a wrap again is not what I want to do. Would rather spend on mods!!
