Looking for more aggressive sound
Looking for more aggressive sound
Some may have seen this on another board... I currently have the 'Loud/Sport' Cargraphic mufflers with X51 headers and 200 cell Fabspeed cats and it's just too mellow. I'm curious if anyone has attempted a crosspipe/gundo on an aftermarket can, to bypass the muffler itself somewhat (likely smaller diameter tubing) or possibly open up the muffler and modify the internal baffling for more sound. Might sound a bit crazy, but I want a sound short of straight muffler bypasses but also more than an aftermarket muffler/gundo'd stock cans. Some will likely suggest a Tubi exhaust, but I'd prefer to work with what I have than to go to another system as a starting point. Look forward to any experiences/suggestions. Thanks.
I bet I have the most 'aggressive' exhaust note around: custom exhaust hooked up to my aftermarket turbo.
No mufflers and 200-cell race cats. The end.
Rawrrrr.....
Don't expect to have a conversation or listen to music while you drive hard, but then my point has always been: those are not activities I enjoy while driving hard.

v35, thanks for the heads up on the After Hours system. I've looked into the website and listened to a few vid clips. Love the minimal design and 8 lb. weight. That could be the answer i'm looking for. I'd have a set of Cargraphics and gundo'd stock mufflers to sell, so it would likely be close to a wash on cost. Would love to hear this in person first, but it doesn't seem like many people in a given area will be running this system. thanks again for the info.
i found when i added the 200 cell cats the car had good power gains but honestly sounded terrible. i added some awe headers and it brought some grunt back.. the high pitch went away and i can feel the car pulls better across the rev range.
my car sounds fantastic on wot from outside but from inside the cabin it can be more high pitch that deep.
will try to get some fly by vids up for you guys.. i am running a pse

honestly, it sounds like we're probably after a different sound. I'm looking for that shriek/wail sound of a Cup car. To me, 911s are not meant to sound too deep and throaty. My Cargraphics have a deep, bassy note and that's what turns me off a bit. I'm looking for that raspy, exotic sound - which happens to be that higher pitch sound.

I have the Cargraphic, but have not installed it yet. I have a 997.2, it has to be better than stock, stock has no sound at all. I also have the sharkwerks by-pass to install. I am looking forward to hearing it.
v35, really wish i could have the opportunity to hear your car firsthand. i bet it sounds incredible.
carnut, cargraphic is definitely superior to stock, just a deeper, throatier sound than what i'm actually looking for. many like that deep sound, though. if it opened up more, i might like it better. it just seems that everything above 3500 is the same tone. nothing really changes from 3-4 and 5-7. it plateaus from a sound perspective - best i can describe it. nice, but not thrilling. ;-)
fc, yes, have the evo and above 5k it's great. almost a howl from 5-7k. i like to hear what my car is doing. going from a 200/gundo (fister style - dual bypass) to the 200/cargraphic, i've lost some sensitivity to the engine through it's sound.
having some racing experience, you enjoy knowing where your car is simply from the sound of the engine note.

The Cargraphic is just loud enough to hear inside the cabin, but louder to the outside world if that matters to you. It's made in Germany for German roads, which means sustained 5K rpm runs on the autobahns. No German manufacturer is going to make anything too loud as you couldn't take it as hard as you drive there, and Germany frowns on noise pollution and mods in general. America is way different. People only experience loud at short spurts. Cargraphic is a perfect real world exhaust.

I hear you and totally agree. Throttle, RPM's and exhaust note should all be in synch in order to determine where the car is - even if you were driving with a blind fold.
