I would walk away. Even if what the dealer says made sense (which it might), you'd have a faulty DME. More importantly, when you will try to sell the car, you'd have a lot of explaining to do to any informed buyer.
It's got to be a faulty reading because theres no way to get the same number of revolutions through three different ranges simultaneously. See if they're willing to have it scanned at another facility to try and correct this.
Contacted the dealer and requested another DME report, senior technician stated readings are burned into the car's computer and additional test will still give same results.
I'm moving on, not worth the possible headache...
Thanks

I think that it is the right decision. Actually, I wonder if there is a way to erase the DME reading altogether, such for example by substituting a faulty DME.
I am thinking that even if that was possible, a new DME chip would also reset the engine operating time no just the overrevs, thus rendering the readout useless.
Can anybody comment on this?
If that is true, buying a car with a "faulty" DME reading or with a substitute chip, would be as bad as buying a used car without asking for a DME report. This is my understanding but someone else may know more.
