Spark Plug Maintenance

I just had my spark pugs changed at 65K miles.

Is it sad that I'm excited about it only being $200 in labor + $130 in parts?




Feels like I stole something.

^ same question, how does it feel? I'm taking in my car for spark plugs this Friday.

I found widely varying quotes. One highly recommended mechanic on this board quoted me $750 + gave me a whole run down on why its such a PITA, his "secret" technique to getting it done -- blah blah blah. This really irked me and I def. won't be going back to him.

Another local shop quoted me $300 and also said they'd fix the slop in my shifter assembly. This also makes me feel like I'm doing something bad, considering I just spent close to $3k on an IMS/RMS seal refresh + clutch replacement.

Is there no palladium plug equivalent? Why do the plugs require changing so often? If the ZR1 Corvette's LS9 can get 100,000 miles on a set of plugs, why can't these Porsche engines? Just asking...

'07 4S at 64k miles and yes this was the first time

He used OEM Bosch plugs and obviously he said they looked terrible when he pulled them out.

I have 105,000 miles on the original plugs. I do 26 MPG highway and 21 MPG city and highway combined. I don't understand why change them so early as I will never understand somebody replacing the clutch at 25,000 miles. Mine is the original clutch also.

I did the plugs and coils myself in the driveway last summer - not too hard with a decent tool set you just have to take your time, remove one rear wheel at a time and plug away (knowing how to bend your arm in unimaginable shapes helps too). All in with a cup of coffee and taking your time it wont exceed two hours.

did mine at 45k also did the serpentine belt as it was showing wear.

plugs are cheap.. coil packs get expensive.. only need those if they break

Seriously, I'd be contacting Bosch, NGK, Beru, etc. to find a fine-wire long-life equivalent plug. Then I'd change them once and forget about them evermore. But that's just me...

Feels like I stole something.
I guess I'm getting slower as I age...I just caught this: $130 for six spark plugs?!? And they're not even long-life plugs? Coil packs, 40k-mile water pumps and clutches...people, as a potential Porsche owner, I'm beginning to think that maybe I should just stick with Corvettes. These maintenance costs are frighteningly bizarre...
