braking problems while turning
noticed a new problem just over past month or so, whenever i'm turning and braking at the same time, which doesn't occur often, i notice that the brake pedal seems to shudder and sort of 'catch' in certain positions. it's difficult to describe. the actual brake functionign seems to be alright though. i checked the pads and rotors and they seem to be fine. there is no problem at all when braking in a straight line. any idea what this could be? car was braking fine previously. no changes other than new hankooks but in the same size as my prior tires. thanks for any thoughts...
Are you causing the ABS to engage? Because that's what it sounds like from your description. The new tires may not have as much grip as the old tires. Especially brand new tires - there is often some release agent still on the tires that takes a few hundred miles to wear off. That makes the tires very slippery.
new tires have 1500 miles on them already, they felt flighty at first (hankooks) but are more stable now. it happens under even medium braking, maybe not so much under soft braking. i've felt ABS before, when slamming on the brakes hard, and i think this feels a bit different. it feels like the brake pedal will get 'stuck' at one point and then 'click' down to the next level, like there's a catch somewhere. perhaps it is. also the traction control light does not come on during this type of braking either...
I'm running Evos as well. Does this occur when you first drive off or shortly after? The negative of Evos is that they need to have heat in them before the grip starts. I get slippage during cornering when they are cold.
I've AutoX them as well and in between runs they col enough that its noticeable.
Hope this helps.
