In truth it does not take a lot to reach that overfill mark. Last time I did my oil I made the mistake of following the porsche recommendation on refill capacity which is 8. Something. With the filter. It's too much. After I checked the level I had the same thing but I only had to pull about an eighth of a quart out to get the level perfect. Just loosen the drain plug but not all the way and let it run some oil into a pan. Not more than a small coffee cup full then tighten it up. Run the engine for 20 seconds. Shut it off and wait forever until the digital gauge can read again.

the op has an 07, I have an 09, he checks his level with the engine off and my 09 checks the engine oil level while running.... just a FYI.

mine was also filled like his when it left the dealer for the first time. as someone said, it s probably only a cup over. that shouldn t cause a problem.

I like the idea of draining some oil but keeping it to top back off to the right level. It would be really bad to blow a seal.

thanks all, and I'll post my results later.
