So I have manual 2009 997.2 with the standard sport wheel. Its the same sport wheel design that's in the 997.1's BUT

I recently saw a 997.1 sport wheel and it was not leather wrapped like mine is. Mine has really nice, soft leather wrapped around it BUT it's not the XPA version.

Do you know if in 2009 they decided to add nicer leather to the standard sport wheel?

that style of sport wheel had 2 types, standard and xpa. XPA is slightly thicker and (supposedly) nicer leather. If you saw another type it might have been worn... They also offer the same wheel in alcantara, and alcantara with a stripe.
