The black plastic trim at the base of the windshield does not seem to be snug against the glass. I'm not sure if the purpose of this piece is re-direct water/grime or is just there for aesthetics.

I just noticed because my windshield was being replaced and I noticed it before and after the replacement. Almost like it is warped. Its not noticeable unless you look closely. I am more worried if it will cause functional issues.

Thoughts?

 

I think it simply a sight shield.

 

Mine is same. Not flush at ends.

 

That is normal. It isn't meant to be sealed to the windshield as windshield is sealed all around when it's installed. It's purpose to to cover the windshield wiper motor and actuator arms and act as an aero aid for windflow over the glass.
