rear tire worn out: 2 new rear or 4 new tires?

all,

I have Pirelli rosso on the 997.
rear are really worn out. almost no tread left. almost slick tires
and i'm doing a road trip of 550 miles next week.

front tires are good. front tires manufacture date is 2007

should I buy only a set of rear pirelli rosso or go with 4 hankook.

both solution are about the same price ($1100)

can't afford 4 michelin super sport right now....

usually u can just switch out the rears.. but mix and match is a no-no

and i am not a fan of Hankooks..

it appears u want to switch from Pirelli to Michelin..

did u check TireRack ? its $1168 for all four. The link is to my spec (prob same as your spec) I just don't know their shipping cost to Montreal.

agree with you. no mixing tire.

the michelin you mention are $1650 with taxes shipping and duty.
and I don't see the added value for $500. this is why I mentioned the hankook that got some decent reviews from people here

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ook-tires.html

so either I replace the worn tires with exactly the same (pirreli rosso) or I replace all 4 tires

is a 2007 tire too old?

car is still CPO and i would like to renew it. so maybe to replacing the rear pirreli is the right choice...

thansk :-)

Another way is to find a friend in Vermont (or closest USA city to u) to help u out..

have the friend buy it and have TireRack ship it to them directly. Shipping charge will be about $60 and prob no sales tax since its out of state (i think TireRack is in Nevada)

Then u just drive out to USA in a truck and bring it back to Montreal.

just a thought.

BTW Pirelli is over-priced and noisy IMO

if the fronts have 5-6mm of tread left, its fine. just get a set of rears. you can get pzero regular or rosso. pzero regular has better tread pattern and is cheaper. the rubber compound is the same so mixing is okay in this case.

i buy on ebay. you can find near new take off tires for 30-40% off compared to tirerack.

next time you replace all 4, consider the michelin super pilots. best tire money can buy. period.

I would consider a set of Bridgestones. I have had great experience with my RE50A tires. First set of rears got 15k, 2nd set of rears are at 12k, and fronts now have 27k with at least another 3k left on them. Never had a problem with any of them, and have autocrossed with them a few times. They are much less expensive than the Michelins.

Based on the age of the fronts I would say go ahead and do all four. It's not like you wont need them in the future anyways. I used to buy 2 and 2 and now I just do the whole set. Much more quick and easy imo.

i'd change out all four. i had a bad experience when switching out the rears to hankooks and keeping the fronts michelin ps2s. traction control would keep coming on during hard acceleration during turns and rear felt flighty. switched the fronts and problems are gone. beware as the v12s based on past posts also seem to take some time to settle as well and may feel a bit loose for the first 500 miles.

Exactly. Two sets of rears for one set of fronts. Then a whole new set of all four. Works all the time.

I finaly set an appointement in Maine. for a pair of rear pirelli pzero rosso (same as front tire, N1 rating)

$436 per tire (tirerack was $411 each + $35 shipping) so very similar.
about $30 install
$45 taxe.

car is still CPO and I would like to renew the CPO. this is why I took some pzero N1
but only canadian dealer can renew CPO. not something available in USA. but my canadian dealer cannot renew CPO on a USA car.... have to fight for it...
