997S 3.8L X-51 Power Pack owners?

I have a Cayman S w/ that engine and would like to have contact w/ some people who have this engine. Not much online about it anymore.

Specifically, right now I'd like to know the oil capacity w/ filter. And is this the "good" oil pan?

Thanks.

I have it on my '06 S. Same oil capacity and filter and absolutely no differences in oil pan between the one on the regular S motor and the X51/Powerkit motor; it's the only pan that Porsche put on these motors. The X51 pan sold around is for the 996 version of the Powerkit, not the 997.

Thanks. So what IS the capacity? I don't have an owners manual.

The 996 X-51 pan is the prefered one? Why on earth would Porsche have gone backwards?

The capacities, as per the owner's manual, are 8.7 quarts/8.25 L without oil filter change and 9 quarts/8.5 L with filter change.

Thanks for confirming that.

I blew a big cloud of smoke ar Barber a few weeks ago was afraid I was in for some serious expenditures but I now see that the 2 "gallon" jugs I added were in fact 5 qts. each so I overfilled by a qt. Hopefully, that caused the smoke bomb.

Do you know anything more about the X-51 package? Somewhere I heard or read that it had an additional oil pump and other oiling enhancements. Still wonder why they scaled back what I gather was the best pan (996 X-51) they ever made.

Wow. You won't believe me, but you can confirm with Porsche mechanics. I have first hand experience. I puffed smoke every time I would restart the engine (2002 C4S) after coming off track. Turned out after 2 years of trying to diagnose, that there was simply too much oil in the engine for track use. No AOS problem, just too much oil.

The grid workers used to ask me how many Mosquitos I was killing.

Run the car almost a quart (3/4) low and voila! All fixed.
