Hi guys, need some advice.
Just picked up a used OEM GT3 front bumper for my C4S. Getting ready for paint and install, but have a question about the center vent.
I dont have a third radiator, but would like to leave the center duct open. The bumper has the center frame to do that, and I'm planning to use a Rennline grill for cosmetic purposes.
My question is, do I need any additional ducting, or will the air find its way out of the top vent? Does that make sense?
I could block off the center with the plastic piece from my original bumper, but would like to leave it open.

3rd rad components are very affordable - you might want to consider it as part of the install. never hurts to keep the temps down a bit.

 

Thanks, and I agree that they are affordable, but then you get into which center radiator kit. I understand the GT3 kit and the standard one mount differently.

Has no one mounted a GT3 front bumper without a third rad and left the center duct open?

 

In our case, the vent is simply for looks as the 3rd radiator forces the air downward instead of the gt3 upwards. price the gt3 radiator and bracket and compare to a regular center radiator. as long as you have the options, i would go for the gt3 radiator.

The GT3 radiator kit is a lot more expensive. Would prefer not to add it. I know its all cosmetic, but would prefer to leave the center vent open and let the air flow out through the top vent. Just dont know if i need any ducting to do that?

Would love to hear from anyone whos done it. Maybe i should just block it off.

 

Maybe I'll ask my question a different way. I know a lot of members have upgraded to the GT3 front bumper. Have you either;

1. Used the third radiator, or
2. Blocked the center vent with your existing plastic plug, or
3. Opened the center vent to let air in and then out through the top vent?

Seems to me the question is, if you don't use the radiator will all the ducting still be in place and how will it look aesthetically. Assuming only the rad is missing, functionally everything will be the same - no issue. Without the rad in the front, what will be seen and will it look appealing or not.

 

You're right, the aesthetics will be a question. Not sure what it will look like with only a grill in the center and no radiator?
But I'm also wondering if there will be a problem functionally with no ducting. The easiest approach is to reuse the plastic plug from my original bumper, but would like to get any functional benefit i can from the airflow coming out of the top duct and over the hood.
Also thought it might look better? Thats why i was hoping to hear from anyone who may have gone this route.

 

a fine mesh screen in black will suffice I would think, mostly un see thru able and clean...?

Try contacting Precision Porsche in Torrance. They may be able to answer your questions as they sell replica GT3 bumpers.

Dave, I dont see why you would need to put any ducting to the top vent. Isn't that vent to allow cooling to flow over the center radiator? If you don't plan on putting in the third radiator your vents would just be cosmetic. Should be no problem to leave the plug out and use the retaining frame with some mesh.
