I believe I should take to Porsche Huntington. Long Island, NY, where the car was first purchased. Major maintenance is 1900 Dollars? I wish I could save by taking it to a European specialized shop, but not sure if it is worth it?

Inputs please.
Thanks

If you only had the oil changed 2 months ago and you had a thorough PPI done when you bought it, then it's a flip of the coin which would be better to do. If you had a PPI done, and the only issue you are having is with the A/C not cooling quickly enough, then I would personally have no problem with taking it on vacation first, and then getting it serviced upon return. You may want to get the A/C checked first, though.

on some cars the AC goes off when engine is over a certain RPM (to allow more power to the wheels) so make sure you don't drive it like it is ment to be driven.

LOL, not the case, I struggle to leave the garage with 100 degree air inside the car for 15, 20 minutes! it is definitely not working...I tested today and it will only be OKAY after almost 20 minutes later! not fun!

Hey Braze, I would recommend the Porsche of Huntington over Porsche of Roslyn if you decide on taking it get serviced. Vinny at Huntington is very polite and accommodating.

I have a Tip and it starts in 2nd as well.

My wife's Cayenne is a TIP and it also starts out in 2nd, asked dealer and they reported it's supposed to do that for economy. Not sure it the programming is the same for the Carrera.

Thanks guys,
I decided to service before my trip with the car to Miami, I guess it is wiser to do, since it is a major maintenance time (7 yrs old).

The Dealership charges a couple hundred dollars more than Porsche specialty certified shops, however I followed the advice from our members and brought into a Porsche Tech who was very knowledgable and advised what needs to be done (just like the Dealership did), plus he explained every details of what will be done. This shop only deals with Porsche for decades.

I was happy with his sales pitch and brought it in this morning.
Will pick it up tomorrow afternoon and will post back with comments.

Thanks everyone,
LCL

guys, got the AC flushed and recharged! 410 Dollars! too much imo.
Did the recommended major maintenance (7 years old), took the advice of some members, BELIEVE OR NOT, at the end I REALLY regretted, no paper work provided except a excel made invoice with no dates and mileage on it, cost me just over 2K for oil, filters, spark plugs, engine coils, and a verbal statement that all fluids were checked or changed!
i will not post in here who did it, but if you are in NY and you want to know, PM me and I will advise not to.

I still think the way to go is the dealership! too late now, I am really upset at my irrational decision to take to a Porsche Tech Specialized shop! it was actually a couple hundred more than what the dealership was charging!

Anyway, i just hope it will not void my 2 year bumper to bumper warranty with the dealer!
regards,
LCL

I'm sorry hear you didn't have a good experience with an indy shop. My experience has been totally different and I have saved tons of cash! You shouldn't have a problem with loosing your warranty, unless the indy shop caused the problem. Good luck!! I hate stealerships!!!

How did you go from oil & an AC recharge to all that?
And a verbal guarantee with a vague "invoice". Something is definitely not right here.
Does " Porsche Tech Specialized" mean just a tech trained by them and not that the shop is not endorsed by Porsche?
Plugs are done at 60k and coil packs only need replacing if cracked.

Here is a more detailed info:
MY MISTAKE...
I ended up bringing the car to another shop close to my home (Queens), they only deal with Porsches, they are supposed to be the oldest and most experienced group of Porsche engineers in NY STATE...
Anyway, I am sure that the quality of their work is great, the shop is really nice and clean, the problem is that I felt ripped off (maybe I wasn't), the second and most important thing was that I got a simple excel invoice for over 2K with no address, no mileage, no service date...and the car was REALLY dirty, with lots of oily finger marks all over in and out. I guess I was expecting too much and did not antecipate to spent 2K on a major maitenance! maybe it is just my expectation.
The description of the work does not state fluid changes, overall suspension inspection, etc. as per Porsche recommendation, however I was told that IT WAS OBVIOUSLY DONE!
The dealer quoted me 1800 for all the above, except the coolant flush and AC recharge.
The shop charged 410 Dollars for the flush and recharge of the AC...Did I get ripped off? I really don't know, but it is really bad when you dont get the facts upfront...I guess it is just a lack of awareness of how to deal with new customers, as I was told upfront that I would be spending close to 1500 Dollars.

Anyway, too late now and yes I am very disapointed, but got to get over it now.

Take care,
LCL

I have compared the prices between the local dealers and my Indy shop and the difference is huge. For example: oil change at the dealer 300 plus and the Indy $150.00. Installation of the Tubi exhaust...dealer $400 plus, Indy $180. Flush brakes by Indy $100. Etc.......

My preferred indy shop here in Little Rock (Precision Plus) is reasonably priced (as far as Porsches go) always provides a detailed invoice with labor and parts indicated separately, and always backs up their work.

The A/C is a closed system. Did they do a leak test to see if/where you were losing refrigerant when they flushed and refilled? $410.00 does seem a bit high, but I've never had to have it done on mine, so who knows? At least you'll be more comfortable on your summer trip, so that's a great thing.

Drive safe and have fun!

Just for comparison, the Pcar dealerships in the DFW (Texas) charge around $185 for an oil change and similar for a brake flush.
