Question Please Assist me (2006 Carrera S)

Hello all

1 - I wonder if it is normal for a 2006 automatic Carrera S to always launch on 2nd gear? unless you manually shift to 1st gear!
2- Air conditioner takes about 10 to 20 minutes to cool (depending on OAT), then it works perfectly well with no issues! I am sure this is not normal, correct? any ideas of what can be wrong?
3- Car is due for 7 years MAJOR MAINTENANCE including oil change in October 2013: I am planning to drive it from NY to FL in August 2013, now: Should I do the maintenance before or after trip?
4- Can a large 10 year old ride in the front from NY to FL? what does the law says?

Thanks guys,
Appreciate any inputs.

Best to all,
LCL

Thanks,
I bought the car a month ago, drove it very briefly and used the AC once when it was not very hot (did not notice) and left to overseas.
Came back yesterday, took the car this morning after 2 weeks seating in the garage, it was 91 and after I started the car, AC did not kick until almost 20 minutes later the interior temp was okay at minimum temp (60 degrees).
Another Porsche thing I find it confusing: I believe that when the AC light is on, the AC is actually OFF, correct?

Thanks,
LCL

Maybe your low on freon? All i do is lowerthe temp on the setting to Lo and crank the fan speed towards the middle i dont know what you mean by the light being on means its off. I would think if the lights on that means its engaged and on. Like when you push the sport button it lights up that means its activated

Yellow led on, feature is on.
Also you see a little snowflake in the LCD.
I would suggest the service before the trip
As for the kid, varies on age & weight but check local laws.

Do the service before the trip and while it's in the shop, have them check the A/C for proper operation. Also, have them check and change (if appropriate) the cabin air filter. It may never have been changed since the car was first delivered. Changing the filter is a fairly simple DYI (Especially compared to an Audi A6 - trust me). The cabin air filter will likely not be the primary cause of your A/C issues, but it's often overlooked by owners as part of their preventative maintenance routine.

You can do a web search regarding laws on kids in front seats for the states you will be traveling through down I-95. I'd bet that it's okay in all the states, but better safe than sorry.

Lucky kid taking a summer road trip with his dad in the P-car, BTW. The memories should last him his lifetime.

Thanks,
Why would you service before the trip? any special reason?
All is working well, (except AC that takes 20 minutes to cool, but then it cools fine), oil and filter is 3 months old.

Appreciate inputs.

First time service for me, bought the car 2 months ago serviced!
I believe I should take to Porsche Huntington. Long Island, NY, where the car was first purchased. Major maintenance is 1900 Dollars? I wish I could save by taking it to a European specialized shop, but not sure if it is worth it?

Inputs please.
Thanks

TIP equipped 997's always start in 2nd gear. You can 'force' a 1st gear start in manual mode but it's really not necessary.
