Adaptec spacers arrived but questions (pic)

Soooo... after several weeks the guys at Adaptec sent me Adaptec spacers size 10mm in front and 15mm for the rear. They indicated that they don't usually do 10mm so they custom created this size for me. The 'standard' front size is 7mm. See pic - notice the difference between 15mm and 10mm. The 10mm doesn't have the full round lip like the 15mm.

Questions

1. What should be the correct size of bolt for the front vs rear? In the package it came with 20 bolts sized 60mm. I did noticed some bolts were sized not all 60mm..some were 58mm. Not sure if this is an issue.

2. The front spacers have two 5mm holes and I believe its for 5mm screws. You can see from the pic that each spacer has two 5mm hole. Question is do I need it because it wasn't shipped with the package.
The Porsche OEM spacers instructions have it: http://www.maxspeed-motorsports.com/...eelspacers.pdf

3. Anyone have instructions specifically for Adaptec spacers for 997? I believe its straight forward but didn't know if there was anything else I need to be aware of during the install.

.

You'll need to use longer bolts for both front and rear because of the spacers - looks like they sent some shorter bolts to use on the front (5mm smaller than rear). Why not call them and ask them your questions?

Thanks for the help - the bolt size didn't sound right but wanted to confirm with someone else.

Well lets just say that it took nearly 5 weeks to get the spacers when I was promised 2-3 days after I placed the order. However the guys at Adaptec were nice and finally got the order. I'll call them today to see what they say

I would imagine:
stock bolt length + spacer thickness = new bolt length

Correct me if I'm wrong but factory bolts are 30mm or 45mm?

So…

30mm + 15mm = 45mm (Rear)
30mm + 10mm = 40mm (Front)

Maybe this will help. If you are gong to use a 10mm spacer I'd go with a 55mm bolt.

Awesome - thank you!

So the factory bolts are 45mm, and not 30mm??

The standard bolt measurement of 45mm was taken from my stock 997.2 wheels. The bolts for the 5mm and 15mm spacers were also taken from a set of spacers I used on the same car.

Glad to help.

Hey Alan…

I got off the phone earlier today with Suncoast and they indicated that the factory bolts for a 997.1 is 30mm. Did your car come with spacers?

It depends on how they are measured. If I remember right, Porsche measures the entire shaft (including the ball seat) and calls it 45mm. This is stock length for 997 without spacers. If you measure only the threaded portion, you'll get 30mm.

Ahhhh…now it makes sense. Okay so I have the right measurements then. THANK YOU!

Hey Alan..
Any chance you know the answer to this one:

You can skip the retaining screws if you don't have them on hand. Although there are minor benefits to using them. Without the screws it can be challenging to position the spacer, then position the wheel, then start putting the lug bolts in. The screws really help to get the spacer perfectly positioned on the hub before you heft the wheel and thread the lug bolts. Also, if you use the retaining screws, the spacers will not fall off when you remove the wheels. This might not be a big deal at home where you can be extra careful, but I can imagine a shop might not be so careful if they aren't aware that the screws are missing.

I use stainless steel M8 x 1.25 x ##mm Phillips flat head screws (where ## is spacer thickness + 5mm). You can find them on ebay for ~$10 per dozen.

.

As a point of interest to those of you comtemplating spacers, I just bought 2 sets of RSS spacers from Suncoast for my C2, 7MM for the fronts and 15mm for the rears and they came with the threaded positioning tools that locate both the spacer and the wheel when you are installing them. It eliminates the need to screw the spacers onto the hub and makes wheel installation a snap. Rss includes the tool with each axle set.

Super useful info!! I plan to install it this weekend and I'll take pics of the end result :-)
