Installation of LED Interior Lights

My wife bought me an LED set from one of the 6speed vendors for my 997.1. What we got was a box of bulbs with no instructions. I found instructions on the site, but it recommends buying a whole set of tools for the installation. So....is this really necessary. I certainly don't want to damage anything, but buying a whole set of tools for a what I hope is a one-time job seems a bit much. Any guidance is appreciate.

The tools are useful to remove the lens housing and light casings without damaging the interior. You could try with out them, ie with a screwdriver, but you risk damaging parts. The dome light especially, the plastic lens is fragile, I've never been able to remove it without breaking a tab.

Thanks. I think if the sales person had bothered to point we needed special tools we've of skipped the whole idea. I had no idea it was this complicated.

It's not. You can use a screw driver, thin blade, but cover it with electrical tape.

Buy a set of trim tools. I got very nice ones from Griot's garage for $20. Worth every penny. I've used them several times. Using a credit card or screwdriver on some parts is just primitive by comparison.

Not trying to schlep my business but at Pep Boys we carry a set of trim tools(soft and hard) specifically to remove panels etc. They can be found in the specialty tool section. Bottom right hand side of the section. I buy all tools and equipment for Peps and wether you buy them from us or any other auto place use the right tools. A new lens is going to cost you more than an inexpensive set of tools.

Thanks. but Ebay is more geographical desirable than the closest PEP boys. I bit the bullet and ordered a set.

Cool, I am in the process of restoring an old Grand Wagoneer and they are indispensable tools.

A lot of people use the 5 piece trim molding kit like the one below. For more information Click Here.

Jonhunt - We actually had a PDF with instructions if you haven't found any yet. For more information Click Here. Hope this helps.

I've changed the interior lights to leds on my Targa 07. Just need a small scredriver. Just search youtube or install video. Complete install takes an hour, very easy

I changed the map lights. Used a trim tool and it was very tight. I would definitely not try it with anything else. I wouldn't want to price out a new one!
