Cracked headlight cover replacement

So it turns out the bottom part of my head light cover was hit with a pebble and part of it chipped off. Any one have any idea how much it will cost to have replaced? Is it possible to do it yourself? Is there any chance of getting it warrantied?(I'm assuming not since it's not a manufacturer defect)

I've attached a pic of the damage.

Thanks in advance,
Stephen

Removing and reinstalling headlights are fairly simple, definitely a DIY. Look in your user manual for headlight bulb replacement instructions. The whole headlight assembly pops out.

No idea on cost for a replacement though. Try eBay and LA Dismantlers to start.

No chance on warranty, but you might check with your insurance agent for coverage. Not certain at all if just the outside lens can be replaced DYI, as it may be bonded to the assembly. You may need an entire assembly, and they ain't cheap new, if that's the way you want to go.

It's the entire assembly less the bulb. I replaced one on my 977.2. As I recall it was in the $800 range.

The lens can be replaced if you are a DIY'er... there is instruction here on 6speed on how to. I opened up mine to clean the oxidation on the lens from inside. You can try searching for a damaged headlight with the lens in good condition on ebay or by contacting LA dismantler, I saw some on ebay a while back for less than 100$...

If I were to get a new headlight cover such as this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-997-...147#vi-content

would that do anything about preventing condensation in the headlight?

You have to see if the crack goes inside the headlight for the condensation, if not those covers might cover the damage to your headlights, but 295$ seems a bit expensive for those covers..

brought my car over to a local porsche shop, and they said that the seal isn't broken.....I guess I'll just put it off until I hear from a dismantler that has a headlight.

KI Studios has vinyl rings for headlights for $65. Perhaps rig something up to fill the gap (JB Weld?) and cover it all up with these:
