Govt. mandated escape release in case someone gets locked in the trunk. Of course if you are in the front trunk they have already killed and dismembered you so you can fit. So... not sure how useful it is.

 

It's for kids and little people...very little people. :-)

From the owner's manual:
Trunk Entrapment
Your vehicle is equipped with an internal trunk release mechanism.
A person trapped in the luggage compartment can release the lid from the inside using the unlocking handle.
The handle is fluorescent and glows in the dark. When loading the luggage compartment, make sure that items of luggage or other objects cannot become caught on the handle.
This could cause the luggage compartment to open unintentionally.

what, you guys don't carry small people in the frunk? I find it helps with the front lightness issue under hard acceleration...
