997S v. 9974S?

I have a 997S and am looking at 9974S. Any big difference on the track? Any advantage to upgrading above/beyond the addition traction?

I am assuming that you are talking 997.1 C2S vs C4S.

I wanted a C4S, but settled for a C2S and glad i did. To me C4S has a wider rear which looks great, but it also has more parts to maintain, heavier, and all wheel drive in Texas is a waste.

And most importantly driving a C2S is more fun.

My $.02

Makes you a superstar on those rainy track days, don't even need to slow down.

4S looks better and is faster around the track.

AWD makes a good driver a faster more confident driver.

i'll give you the first part but as for the second, not so much. maybe in the rain, sure, but there is a reason most successful race cars are RWD. a good driver will only get faster (i'm taking this to mean "better") using skill, not technology and electronic nannies.

i have a 4s. it's great in the snow and what little rain we get in colorado. i have driven the 2s a little and it definitely gets sideways easier, even on dry pavement. i have driven my 4s on straight-up, 3 inches of compacted snow/solid ice with the michelin ps2's. i haven't experienced much over steer but, then again, i am a novice driver. the wider hips look great. despite this, if i knew then what i know know, i'd probably have bought the 2s i test drove.

When I was in the Market a year ago I decided the 4S or 2S would not make my decision for me, although I do not drive in winter and only in the rain when the forecast is wrong and I get caught in it, I liked the way both drove. The 2S I preferred slightly for the Rear Wheel Drive feel, the 4S for the Wide Hips and the way it stuck in the corners.

I decided it would be condition, color, and the options I wanted that would determine the car I would end up with. I ended up with a C2S and I am very happy with it.

I prefer the 4S, not because it was my weapon of choice. There have been instances where I have felt the front end pull me straight when entering a sweeper too quick and having to brake into the corner (I know a definite no no), we all make mistakes. There have been many life saving instance of the front end correcting a oversteer. That said, there is some understeer, which I hate. It is most noticable on tight corners. The 2S would go better through those, usually with a flick of the backend. Eliminating understeer is the big attraction to a GT3 (amongst other things). More importantly pick X51 if a choice has to be made, so glad I ticked the box.

Keep what you have. Invest in more coaching to make your track skills even better. That is what is satisfying.

If I were you I would ask a friend or someone you know to use their 997 4S for the day. Get to know it a little bit.

Before I made my purchase I drove a C4S and was unimpressed because where I live, the roads are flat and we have a ton of straights. All the AWD would have done for me was make the car heavier, less fun to drive imo, and more costly.... but that's just me of course

wide hips and a fat *** aren't always worth giving up the personality. wait... .are we talking about cars?

I also did a lot of asking around and spoke to a few Porsche mechanics. For many of the reasons already listed I went with a C2S. No regrets.
I think the X51 option or even a GTS would have been a even better choice.
