maintenance cost on 997or 01 turbo
I am debating picking up a 06-07 997s this winter or a 01-02 porsche turbo. Or a 07 z06. The used porsche would have roughly 50k on it
i always loved porsche but not sure about maintenance.

Having owned both, I can offer at least an opinion.
I had an '01 TT from 2007 to 2009. I still drive my '06 c2S which I have had since 2010.
Both cars were no more expensive to maintain than a Camry, with the following caveats:
1. Make sure you buy a car with good service history and where the usual things that can go wrong have been addressed.
2. Make sure you continue to keep up the maintenance (which means more frequent oil changes than Porsche recommends etc.)
3. Rely on a good Indy mechanic and not the dealership.
4. Wear and tear items a more expensive to replace than for a Camry, but that seems rather self-evident. It is a performance car after all.
5. Always do an in-depth PPI before buying. That includes paint density test, engine leak down test, DME read out, etc.
Also, having driven both, I would probably get the 997 S and add a supercharger when you can. Or wait until you can stretch to a used 997.1 TT, which is where I'm headed next...

I'm selling my 997 Targa 4S. I added the bigger plenum and full exhaust after considering adding a super charger. PM me and I can tell you about my car and my experience with deciding on adding forced induction.
@DoninDen:
Your Targa has unique challenges with regards to F.I. aftermarket installs (I remember reading the thread.).
A regular S or S cab does not have those issues, so the OP has a choice between TCP turbo or VF Supercharger once he settles into his new (to him) 997

The TPC supercharger, Eaton blower (roots style) did not fit, but the VF centrifugal style supercharger will fit in the Targa. TPC says their turbo will fit as well, which makes sense given the location of the turbos. According to TPC the reason their roots style would not go in was more due to the structural steel used in the Targa, as all of the 997's required interior steel engine cabin modifications to make the blower fit. The Targa has reinforced steel coming off the A pillars and modifying structural steel was not recommended.
