thickness increase on steering wheel rewrap?

I am sending my 997.1 "sport" steering wheel out to Dallas Custom Steering Wheel for rewrapping and custom stitching. The stock wheel appears to be 1 1/8" in thickness. I'm trying to decide how much to increase:

· 1/16" padding increases thickness by 1/4"

· 1/8" padding increases thickness by 1/2"

I'm torn, and have no example to actually try for feel. My initial reaction is to go with the smaller increase, but don't want to underwhelm it. Thoughts? First-hand experience?

Dallas did this for me. It's the 1/8" extra padding which is perfect for my likes. It's fat but just right. Makes the stock wheel feel like a mistake.

I'm gonna try Wheelskins to see how it feels before doing anything permanent.
Cheap $50 solution for the time being and if it's good, I can always replace it as it gets worn.
I've gone though a couple in my daily and it's great.

I had them wrap one in Alcantara for me. Had it wrapped to BMW m thickness, like 4 1/2". I think it is probably 1/8" padding. Get a grip on a wheel you like and measure the circumference then have him match it. He'll do it and you'll get the results you want! Good choice, you'll be happy. I went with a DCT this time around, but it cost quite a bit more.

$1,000 without core exchange. About half that with exchange. Has to be the exact same model wheel to exchange though.

Pricing response from Don at DCSW. Actually, mine is the "sport" wheel, so the thumb rests are already in place:

Thanks for your inquiry. The cost to recover your 2007 Porsche 997 standard triangle air bag steering wheel with options to factory's specification is
- Wheel $319 (premium solid black leather) or $349 (two-tone, including combine perforated and solid black leathers or Alcantara).
- Adding the thumb rests $100 (at 10 and 2 o'clock positions for sporty look).
- Extra padding $50 (your choice of either 1/16" or 1/8" padding. The 1/16" and 1/8" paddings would make your stock wheel to about 1/4" and 1/2" thicker respectively).
- Adding a stripe $30 (any color).
- Colored stitching (no extra charge).
- Shipping $18.
Turn around time about a week.
