Thanks Robocop

Steffo, you are right that the base car will likely be cheaper to buy and run over the long term, but doing your own service in the short term may not be the best way to go. The bi- annual service also ensures Porsches diagnostic equipment and qualified technicians check over the car for signs of any issues, that if caught early may save $ later. In addition if your plan changes and you do decide to sell earlier the car's value will be much reduced without a FPSH, or at least a well known specialist.

The new DFI engine seems to have cured most of the past engine issues, but remember that they haven't run big mileages in large number yet, and Porsche technicians will also have access to any officially noted issue bulletins, software updates etc that will inevitably pop up over time. So home service will be a false economy in the short term IMO.

With regards to the S or standard Carrera choice, as mentioned the test drive should help you decide if the S is worth the extra $$ to you. Best of luck with your search

At the end of the day, listen to what all the experts say.."buy the best Porsche you could afford!"

The statement is very applicable to you since you are planning on keeping it for a long time plus you would be putting little miles on it.

Amortize your cost over the 20 years! I think you'll see that you should be buying what your budget could afford.

Good luck!

Is this for real! I have a C4S and just like any 911, my rears wear twice as fast as he fronts. I never had issues replacing just 2 tires.
