DIY: Rear Seat Delete

I removed my rear seats today on my 997 and decided to write up a DIY on it. I've search around for one before I did it but could find one so I thought it's worth sharing how I've done it. It is a relatively simple process which should take less than 30 mins to complete.

Tools Required:

- Torx T25 Screwdriver
- Torx T40 Screwdriver
- Medium Flat Head Screwdriver

Performance Gain: Drops weight of the car by approx. 20Lbs

All pictures shown below are from the drivers side.

1) Remove the bracket cover on the backrest outer side with the flat head screwdriver.
2) Remove the bolt with a Torx T40 screwdriver. Mine was on there really tight so I needed a wrench to crack it lose.

3) Remove the backrest bracket cover on the inner side out using flat head screwdriver.
4) Remove the bolt with a Torx T25 screwdriver.

5) The backrests are now ready to come out. Pull up from the right backrest until both inner and outer backrests are off the brackets. Both backrests should come off real easy from here.

6) Repeat steps 1 & 2 to remove the left side backrest bracket.

7) Optional: Remove the seat bottoms by pulling them up. No tools required since they are attached with a velco. I've left mine on there as I didn't like how it looked without it.

8) Put the outer bracket covers back on both sides. For the center brackets, I used a velco to keep the plastic cover to the carpet.

Walla Your Done!!!

Additional pictures to wrap it up. I plan to hide the seat belts behind the side covers. Save that for another Sunday project.

Inner bracket with cover attached to the carpet with velcro.

That looks clean. I think once the rear seat belts are gone, it will look perfect. I want to do this too, but I actually use my rear seats every so often...
