Center Muffler Bypass aka Center Muffler Delete
Center Muffler Bypass aka Center Muffler Delete
I have a 2009 C2S manual tranny with 24K on the odometer. It has most of the desireable options minus the Sport Chrono package or PSE features. I took my car in for its 4 year service to a perfomance shop in Atlanta and when I asked the owner if there were any mods he would recommend he mentioned a center muffler bypass aka center muffler delete. His perspective of doing this would be that it would increase HP to the wheels by 8-10 HP and provide a more throaty exhaust sound similar to having the PSE switch turned on all of the time. Before I invest in this mod I was wondering if anyone has had anything similar done and are they happy with it. Thank you in advance for your input.
I replaced the center muffler with a set of AWE crossover pipes. While there was a slight change in tone there was not nearly as much change that I was hoping for. A short time later I had the "Gundo Hack" performed on the side mufflers. The combination of the two mods gave me the perfect (IMHO) exhaust note. A little more rumble at idle, no interior drone at any RPM, and the greatest exhaust sound I could ever hope for above 3K rpm. The best news is that I have less than $850 wrapped up in the whole thing.
Sure, you can drop a couple of thousand bucks on that shiny new exhaust system (which won't be that shiny after a few hundred miles of driving), but for the few HP you pick up (I never believe what the manufacturer claims) it simply isn't worth it in my book, especially if your primary goal is a great sounding exhaust.

I also have the Tubi with the center X-pipes.
I installed the X-pipes a few months after the Tubi and with the X-pipes the Tubi finally came to live.
So I think the X-pipes by itself doesn't do much but combined with another mod (Tubi, Gundo) they provide the "icing on the cake"

Well I took the plunge today and did my first mod. I installed a SharkWerks center muffler replacement and am completely happy with my decision. The exhaust note is nice and the dyno from Sharkwerks shows a 10HP increase over the stock 385 HP engine.
Sharkster...after driving the car for several weeks now, post Sharkwerks pipe, I can honestly say that I am extremely pleased with the results. The sound is just right, not too overbearing, but just enough to know this isn't your stock muffler. Also, it may be my imagination but it just feels like the car has a bit more umph to it in the 3rd to 4th gear RPM range.
