It really comes down to how much money you want to spend on tracking a car. If you go M3 it should be a e36 body, fun, cheap and still one of the best handling cars. Now a C2s would be the best all around car and just put Michelin sport cups on. RX-8....???? I hope your joking

We should talk. I moved to a 996C4S from an RX8 several years ago and can offer you my thoughts on the journey. Now I am the owner of a 997 C2S that I use to instruct and play with at the track. It is my dd also. Guys laugh when I arrive at a track with a 911 roof rack and 4 race slicks. But, for me, it works.

There are a lot of things I can tell you too. But, it was the total lack of torque that I hated in the Mazda. But that chassis was awesome. I was on the front straight at the Glen getting passed left and right when I said, "no more". I went home and bought the Porsche 60 days later.

Love you Tires on the Roof guys!
Saw a guy with 3 on the roof, the 4th was in the back seat.
He said he didn't want that much weight in the roof.

4 on the roof no problem. I'll have to put up a pic of the old car with them on top.

Having owned both an recent model M3 (SMG with full Dinan kit) and a 997.1, I'll tell you that the 997 absolutely owns the M3 on handling, feel, performance, and "smiles per mile". I liked my M3, it was a great car, with great performance. However, as much as I liked my M3, I LOVE my 997.

Awesome, I'd love to hear your experience transitioning from the RX8 to the 911 in regards to driving style of the two on the track. Must've been quite a different feel!

For a dedicated track car, the E36 chassis is an awesome choice I agree, but I simply don't have room for a track-only car (garage space for not only the track car, but a truck and trailer for it, as well as multiple sets of tires). Not sure I understand your RX8 comment. Yes I drive one... wasn't joking about that, was it amusing?
