GT3 OEM Shifter Installed

On recommendation of my local indy shop, I went with the 997.2 OEM GT3 shifter (vs the short shift kit or B&M). Had it installed today. WOW...much MUCH better feel and operation. I mean the stock isn't horrible by any means, but now it is far more precise and not much if any play. A true results upgrade for sure. Shifter was and still is on sale at Sonnen for $369 + $20 shipping.

You put a gt3 shifter in a 997? Thats great it fit with no problems? I just hate my stock shifter soooo long from gear to gear. I was thinking of either ssk or b&m but now that you mentioned gt3 ill check that out.

The B&M shifter costs less and is a full billet piece, rather than the plastic OEM GT3 shifter... Just sayin'. Glad you like the improved feel, though!

So you think the b&m is better then ssk? With the switch to bm is the throw shorter?

Google, ask around. I saw lots of threads where guys were removing their B&M shifters. And just as many installing them. Also a LOT of guys recommending the 997.2 GT3 shifter. In the end I trusted the opinion of the Indie that dropped this one in for me...someone who could have told me to buy anything and charged whatever to install. This was an easier/cheaper install as well as there was no rebuilding with a "kit"...just drop in the new one. And it does have metal bushings, is a different design, no slop and is exactly the feel I was hoping for. The throw of the stock shifter didn't bother me, it just had a little vague feel when driving it harder, mainly downshifting. I think the throw is a LITTLE shorter than stock.

In the end you can spend $600 on carbon fiber door sills or sport chrono cover...I've got less than $500 (professionally installed and adjusted) into something that actually makes the car more fun to drive.

When you bought the unit, did it come with the adjustment tool?

Thx!

The plastic clip that holds the shifter in neutral DOES come with it. If that's what you were referring to?

Had the B&M on my -06 C4S. The throw is supposed to be reduced by about 35% which sounds about right. Best and least expensive mod I did on that car. I always said that whoever isn't happy with it and wants back to stock didn't have it installed right.

Another +1 for the B&M. I had the factory SSK on my previous 997S and I prefer the B&M on my current one. Any SSK is a must have on these cars IMO.
