'08 997.1 ... ?

I've been looking into ordering a 981 Cayman S, but I just found a really clean '08 997 that's come available that may convince me to go 911. It's got less than 16K miles, and is optioned with 6MT, Sport Chrono Plus and PCCB (along with some other cosmetic junk). It's at a dealer, so it's CPO.

Comparing to a new 981S, it looks as if I'd be getting a bit more car for a bit less money....but without the warranty. Aside from the obvious IMS concern, is there anything specific to the 997.1 that I should pay special attention to in test-driving/inspecting? Use would be daily driver - I already have a track car, so probably not much track day use (if any). How are the composite brakes for daily use?

Thanks in advance.

Sure, but it's an '08, so the CPO warranty won't last long - especially as compared to a new 981S.

Got it. Tires, brakes and all that stuff should be good with a dealer CPO car.
I d probably be most concered about the clutch as that can have a short life with a bad driver. A service history would be nice and a DME report.
What s the warranty time span?

Definitely a DME report if you are buying a 6 speed.

Definitely.

Anybody got any thoughts on how to inspect the brakes? I know what to look for with iron rotors, but not so sure with PCCB......?

CPO extends the warranty for 2 yrs from date of purchase.

What you really need to do is get a PPI. It's worth it!

Goldduster is infamous around these parts
Get the 997, you'll never look back. Also, CPO's come with a Tech report that shows the remaining brakes, tires etc.

911 is the ONLY way to go, IMHO.

Might wanna first read this:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...boxster-s.html

And see this:

Unless cost is a factor, I'd pay up for the 981S.

+1 on the PPI. A good shop should inspect the brakes with out a problem, but I would think they should be fine. Have you had a chance to drive both yet?

Good points to consider.

Unless cost is a factor, I'd pay up for the 981S.
Price is close enough not to matter, and the new warranty on a 981S makes up for the difference. The bigger issue for me is time; my daily driver is at 180K miles and starting to make noises it shouldn't. I'm not sure I have time to wait for a new build, and can't find a Cayman S on a nearby lot the way I want it (Sport Plus seats, Sport suspension, 6MT, any color that isn't black, white, gray or silver, and NO BOSE).

I've driven several Caymans, but not the 997 yet.

Given the replacement cost associated with PCCB's I'd vote for the Cayman. No benefit on the street and too expensive to use up on the track.

Congrats! You will love the pccb unless you enjoy cleaning brake dust off your wheels.

Post up some pics.
