Opinions: Tight wad Dealer
05997S... I'm not making an excuses for your salesperson at whatever store you were at. You're right, it is our job to know our product, to know our inventory, to know options, to have things to make the buying experience easier for "joe consumer." We're in the only business in the world where people come in and demand to know what we paid for our product to get the best deal. You don't see people going in to buyclothes or jewlery and asking for invoice, and you'd be shocked and what kind of mark up is in that crap.
By no means am I advocating putting money in someone's pocket who you feel do not deserve it. What I am saying is that there are those of us out there in the car business who can make the purchase experience easy and hassle free and will spend a lot of time with you to make sure you get taken care of before/during and after the sale. I just don't condone someone who comes in, wastes my entire day while I sell them on the vehicle they want to purchase and then they beat my deal by a little bit and some jackass who spent two minutes with them gets my paycheck.
It is a business and I choose to be in it and I understand that these things happen. I encourage you to shop, I encourage you to find a great deal, Iencourage you to keep your business local and I definitely encourage you to treat salespeople with some respect. If a customer of mine does that then there is nothing in the world I wouldn't do for them, I'd go out of my way to provide excellent service.

Bre- I respect anyone who works hard and earns an honest wage especially when you can do that in the business environment of a dealership where half truths and mediocrity is the order of the day. I also understand that you are in most cases at the mercy of a Sales Manager who in my experiences in the past can sometimes work against their sales people.
I bought 5 new cars last year and only 1 purchase really went off without a hitch. Even when I went back to the 1 who really got it right for a second car they still botched it even though I felt like they were trying hard. In this particular example I had told the sales manager two months prior I would buy his car for -3K off of sticker. He asked me 3-4 times over those 8 weeks when I was going to buy the car, my answer was always the same and eventually he agreed to sell it for that. I have to ask myself, why wouldn he just sell me the f'n car two months ago when I first told him I would buy it for that price? He probably had a flooring allowance and waited until it ran out. Talking about wasting time. After we agree on price I go back the next day, car not cleaned, paperwork not ready, for God's sakes you even knew when I was coming in. Its crazy! I wound up waiting for two hours. Should I have just up and left? No, because I was there to honor my verbal committment to buy the car.
On the Porsche, I have had an allocation for a few months and asked up front what kind of a discount I vould expect. Dealer said none, but salesman calls me week or so ago and says they will discount an instock car. So let me get this straight, you won't hook me up for coming in months in advance and pre-orderiing a car, but five minutes after an available car shows up you want to talk turkey? You know what my response was, if they will discount it, I should call around. They shot themselves in the ***. I have no control over that kind of erratic behavior. If your going to discount one, you better be prepared to discount them all.

Ok I'll end this simply for all of us. You totally do not understand how the business works and why certain things are done so just go around doing your thing. Im not going to waste my time explaining it.
Sounds like the dealership dropped the ball in taking care of you. Situations like that suck because it leads to a general stereotype that all dealerships and salespeople suck. We're not all bad people, I swear! Next time you want to buy a Porsche, or most high end cars, you can check 6speed and find someone who will take care of you. My buddy Noel works at a Porsche store, and if you are ever in the market for Land Rover, Jaguar, or Volvo I'll do what I can. Better luck next time, sounds like it's time to take your business elsewhere.

Floorplan, in stock units have to move. The longer they stay teh more we pay. Not sure if your aware but most dealership across the country have sold all their 06 orders up until Dec! So why on Earth would anyone sell you an ordered discounted car if they didnt have to. Every new 06 911 we have sold has been full sticker. Whatever sales manager does that is a weak ***. Supply and demand very simple.
I negioated $5k off a 2006 997S for my dad up in Michigan. The dealer was so pleasent to work with he even switched out a cabriolet allocation so he could get my dad's in sooner. Now that is service, and the dealership still made plenty....everyone wins.
I worked at a Porsche store when the 997 was released and I can tell you right now if you think 99% of customers are getting those cars at full list then you need to open your eyes. That's why I lost deals to bigger cities and dealerships because they would knock a grand or two off to get an extra car ordered. The more you ordered the more allocation you could get. Deals are out there on any car, you just have to find the right car and the right place to find them.
I would look elsewhere for your new car. My scenerio, I went to McKenna here in California placed an order for '06 blk/blk. I found a '05 speed yellow/blk
with 2 more options I originally did not order, PCCB and Active seating. Original order was going to run me right around $93K. Called back Tim Churchill at McKenna (awesome sales guy, definitely going back to him for my next P car) told him I found a better deal, he reimbursed my $2K and off I went. The '05 had 2300 miles. Original invoice with all the options came to little south of $98K. We fought hard for 3 days and got it down to $89K out the door
. Moral of the story, I would have loved to saved about $9k and drove through 2 states in my new C2S, that would have been easy. I have full factory warranty from purchase mileage and I am in heaven.
Shop around.

Thanks Bre. This labor day I'm taking 4 days off and heading up to Pismo / Santa Barbara area for wine tasting (don't even like wine its for my wife). The back roads between vineyards are awesome. Lots of twisties and straights for hauling a$$.
Everyone have a safe and fun Labor day.
