buying my 1st Porsche
At long last I am finally going to buy a Porsche. I am looking at a 2010 911 C4S, PDK, Sport Chrono, etc. 14,000 Miles. The car is in California.
I am Canadian and will be importing the car into Canada. Any words of wisdom on the 911 C4S, buying in California (private seller), getting recall letter, transport to Canada, etc. Any words of wisdom will be appreciated.

Get a PPI and go from there. Is it a One Owner or do you have a CPO warranty included? Based on being a 2010 your warranty could end in the next year or 2, I paid extra at a dealer, but wanted the CPO.
How much is it, I would assume around $70K or so???

I'm in the process of having my recently purchased 2009 Turbo shipped from the US to Ontario, Canada. I think it will be crossing the border tomorrow. As others have said, get an inspection including paint metering and get a copy of the maintenance records. You can also call the dealership and see if they're familiar with the car.
Just got PPI. California, the land of litigation, dealers do not do PPI. You can get a safety inspection, fluids, tires, brakes, etc but not something they call a PPI. I heard same story from 2 dealers.
Price was in your ballpark.

Thanks for feedback. What is a PPI. The warranty runs until summer 2014, and I am mulling whether to have existing owner buy extended which will be transferable. Not sure whether cost of extended warranty is value against likelihood of problems. This is a low mileage vehicle.
From having sold a bunch of cars to Canadian and being one living in the US.
All car manufacturers DO NOT do warranty work on imported cars in Canada if the car comes from the US.
Porsche Canada will not and legally has no obligation to do warranty work on an imported car.
If your an American/Resident Alien with an American car in Canada and something goes wrong they will do it. But if you have a VIN from a car sold new in the US and imported to Canada and plated Canadian the warranty is voided at the moment of import. You also need a letter from Porsche Canada saying that the car adheres to Canadian Laws or something like that before registration.
The Manufacturers do that to protect their Certified Used Car Market. Call your dealer and he will confirm. Your only saving grace is buying a third party extend warranty coverage and that is no walk in the park...

A recall clearance letter can only be issued by Porsche Canada. No exception.
They will also do a complete inspection & emissions test. Costs about $500.
Then off to Canadian Tire for your RIV inspection.
You will pay 5% GST plus 6.1% duty at the border.
Provincial sales tax is applied when you plate the car.
