brake assist

driving around in a 997.2 c2 manual, i notice stopping uphill seems to trigger some type of auto brake when stopped. i've looked at some older threads here talking about it. i KNOW how to drive stick--even on a steep hill. i find this less than useless as a feature and just interferes with driving. can this be turned off?

The feature is described in your owner's manual under "Drive-Off Assistant"...and I didn't see any reference to an on/off option.

You may find it useless but many a 911 owner with a manual transmission (heck most everyone else with a manual in their car) have trouble with hills when it comes to getting the car moving from a stop and end up rolling back and into or almost into the car behind them... that is if they dont end up dumping the clutch and stalling out.

So Porsche put this little feature in place to help people out. Look at it as one of those many little things that makes the 911 the 911.

How do you find this interfering? Its more like a safety feature. Say you're at a stop light and decide to meddle with your phone/iPod (I sometimes do), then this would help prevent the small accident that could happen. You never know how close the imbecile behind you has stopped his crappy car. I've driven a stick in all these last 10 yrs and I'm fine with this "feature".

Lack of a cup-holder until the 997 (996.2 had them?) was annoying. It was such a simple thing to add, and yet they chose to ignore it all along. Ah, but I digress

the problem is this function is not predictable. it is unclear how steep the hill has to be to trigger the brake, so you don't know whether it will kick on or not. this is what drives me crazy b/c now i don't know if i'll feel resistance when i engage the pedals or nothing. imo, this "feature" is borderline dangerous. anyways, does anyone know if it can be disable?

any grade

that lets my car roll backwards kicks in this function, even the slightest grade. I hate it because I always feel I am pushing the car against the braking of the car.

Don t know a way to disable but I m sure with a few keystrokes of the dealer computer would do the trick but I m sure they won t.

5% or greater grade activates.
