I'm still in my 2005 C2. Best car I ever owned. I've tested several 991's, but the 997 still puts a smile on my face when I take off like no other car. I've had only trivial problems with it, mostly plastic switches, etc., breaking in the cabin. Recently did the front brakes, but nothing broken (though only 30K miles). I'm actually looking at getting a low miles 2012 997 if I can find the right one...and driving it till the wheels fall off.

Actually, I think I'll find a big plot of land and have myself buried in my 997! Bring out the backhoe...

I purchased my 06 c4s April 20th 2013 and named her MarryJane - dealer was asking $55 and I got him down to $50
It is CPO for two years and I have used the warranty service twice now -
first time I complained the the suspension was squeaky and they change my rack and pinion as well as my coolant tank because of an antifreeze smell at this time I told them there is a squawk when letting out clutch in 1st only and maybe once a month this happens but they found nothing.
The second time I brought the car in for its first oil change that cost me $360 - I had recorded the squawk and played it for the service department and then emailed for them to study also the car was not starting as fast as it should - so they replaced the wiring harness to the starter and alternator and they found the squawk and changed my clutch master cylinder -

Then there's the loaner cars first time was a 2013 diesel cayenne - great truck had it for a week - the second was a 2014 cayman - what a beautiful car this was a lot of looks and thumbs up while driving this threw town - I got to keep this for 2 weeks as the parts for my car had to be ordered - renting a 2014 caymen for 2 weeks would cost a lot more then the $360 - a brand new 6 speed every new technology you could thing of - at one point taking of I stalled - with cars behind me when the light changed - well this would suck as turning car on and off would take time - but step on the clutch and the car started right back up with out missing a beat. I was impressed - I did not like the hill assist though as I found it holding the car while taking off - the car handled great until there was a little snow - obviously

I remember when shopping for my 911 that I would consider a base model caymen as the price could be close especially with the new car financing - I can honestly say that I would chose my 06 c4s over a 2014 caymen any day!
Well if you were giving them to me I would take the 2014 then sell it for an older 911
I think a caymen is a very cool car - a little to easy to drive -
I am still excited every time I am walking to get in the car as the driving it just puts a smile on your face

The caymen is an option - however you are on the 997 forum enjoy the search,

I can't emphasize this enough. I purchased an extended warranty for my 997.1 that has already paid for itself. Whatever you do, TS, buy the extended *full* warranty and factor that into your budget.
