997 vs Stingray?
In my experience the last many years of Corvettes have been structurally solid as well. My 2007 C6 Corvette was very solid and never had any rattles or leaks develop in the two years I had it. As observed elsewhere, they are great cars but provide a significantly different driving experience. I'd love to have both... but when push comes to shove, I'm still more in love with my Porsche.

I understand the love affair with the Porsche. While that never changes, there is also something addicting about the way the Corvette delivers its power, the view out the windshield over the hood and fenders, and the response and sound of a 460hp direct injected, naturally aspirated engine with the NPP performance exhaust system. You really do have to experience it to appreciate it.
Yep, same old CATTMAN, it's me!
Agree with what most say: the C7 is supposedly an entirely different car from the C6. People who have owned both say it's night and day, other than the tremendous torque, which of course, is even more abundant in the C7.
When I get mine I'll definitely post a thorough review and comparison between the 997S and the C7 Z51, and probably do some videos if I'm feely extra geeky.

I live near Malibu, California. If there's one thing you learn about cars (and everything else) when you live near Malibu it's that no matter what you have, many people have something newer, more powerful, more expensive, more exotic, etc etc. The lesson one needs to learn quickly if one is not to spend one's life miserably envying others is to be content with what one has. I'm content with my '08 C2S cab and consider myself fortunate to own it; what Corvettes (or Ferraris or Vipers or Leno's latest supercar) can and cannot do is interesting in a vague sort of way but entirely irrelevant to me. It isn't snobbery, it's maturity.
I skipped the C6 generation so I can't be much help. However, from what I've read in the trade mags and anecdotally on the Corvette forums, there is night and day between the two. And remember, just as with Porsche, how the car is equipped with suspension, exhaust, and other options, will make a huge difference in the way it sounds and feels. Again, despite no first hand experience to offer, I advise you toignore previous C6 experiences and try a C7. Not sure if you're anywhere near me, but if so, come on by and experience it.
Thanks for the offer! Just realized my location was not in my profile...I'm in KC. A neighbor of mine just got a C7 manual back before Christmas and the weather had been crappy for a while, so I haven't been in it yet. Hopefully that will happen soon, or I'll I just go to the dealer with my 997 and pretend. :-) Closest I'll be South FL is Daytona next week for the 24!

Very cool! Hopefully a few more 6speeders and RL's will be in attendance!
I try to stay off this thread...but what happen today. I have to say something.
So here i am at a red light, in our grocery getter 1997 Acura TL 2.5L, left lane, behind a brand new blue Sting Ray. He rev it few times, sounded great. Light turn green, the Sting Ray literally move about 5 MPH, impeding Dallas 5 PM rush hour traffic. So I swung over to the right lane to pass...OMG...the driver...late 50s...grey...and clueless how to handle the Ray.
Now I know why my uncle said "now you in the Porsche, don't go driving like the grey hair folks"...and I have plenty of those. LOL!

I've seen this all to many times in sports cars of all kinds. Very frustrating, and sometimes embarrassing. But who are we to judge what they find fun? Sometimes people are just happy to be driving their fun car.
But these are usually the group of people that say you don't need that much power for normal street driving, regardless of make.
For the last 30 years the Corvette has been the car for the "successful plumber", or so said GM's marketing chief. I am happy that old guy got his dream car. I see as many old bald guys in 911's as I do in anything else. I got my first 911 at 34 and when I go to any PCA events, even at 42 I am still the youngest guy there with a 911.
In any case, my Stingray was built on 1/23, and it is waiting to be shipped, so hopefully I'll have it here soon and will be able to give you all my review.

By the way, 50+ year old guys are not only driving Corvettes, they also drive Porsches, Lotus, Ferraris and Lambos. They have good taste so nothing wrong with it in my opinion

Yeah, what's wrong with gray-haired guys?!
Absolutely nothing. People say that 50+ year old guys are usually associated to Corvettes but I've seen all ages drive Porsches, Lambos, Ferraris, etc... In my mind, its just personal preference
