997 vs Stingray?
Me too. And I'll be in my 50's by the time I'm looking to pick up a CPO'd C7 Z06 in 2017. Pretty sure if I don't have a lot of grey by then, I will after a couple of days on the tollway w/the car.
Ummm....even tho the vette is brutaly fast, they are giant pieces of garbage. I have owned many and have given up!!! I currently have an 11 c2s Cab and a 73 murdered out big block vette. after 1973, all corvettes became lame pieces of junk. peeling door panels, crappy leather seats etc...Every time a new one comes out they brag how great it is.....heard that before.
I have a dream, where Cayman S's come stock with 400hp, and Porsche has punched out the 911 to 4.2 liters and 475hp and they make a stripped Turbo with lightweight seats, coupe only, factory roll bar, optional A/C, no sunroof, lightweight wheels, batt., no back seats, etc. White/black/silver.
For $150k.
What?

What?

Look, I'm a 911 guy, currently own two of them, and this C7 has won over everyone who has tested it. Everyone. I'm going to keep my 911's, and give this Stingray a shot.
I like to hear your opinion a year from now. I seriously considered a C6 Z06 when it came out. The price was right and I like the look from the outside. As soon as I got inside, I hated it. From the steering wheel to the shift ****, to the seats and on to the dash, it just felt cheap. I know I couldn't live with it. I am glad I brought the 997, it was a lot more rare in my neighborhood, it seems like every other neighbor had a C6. The C7 is getting extremely popular as well, I am seeing more and more on the road. It's really tempting, considering you can get a nicely option one for less than a nice Boxster/Cayman S.

The Stingray is no replacement for a Porsche if the owner of that Porsche is a REAL Porsche guy. I think the Stingray will age very well this time around, and I've owned a number of them as well. They are different cars and should not be expected to behave similarly. Having said all that, the Stingray is a real pleasure to drive, to look at, and to enjoy. The Porsche is also, but in a different way. I would hope to never have to make a choice, but if I did, it would be the Porsche. I don't think that will change in a year, but who knows, we'll see.
Oh, yes, I would keep the Porsche over the C7 if I had to choose, if not for any other reason than the back seat, which in a pinch is very useful.
I just hope my C7 arrives this week (delayed due to ATL ice storm) so I can give you all a proper review and comparison.
As for the earlier Coervette's being cheap inside, that is a well-acknowledged truth, and one that was definitively addressed with the C7.

All the major mfg's had large displays/tents at Daytona last week. BY FAR the biggest gaggle of gawkers was around the Stingray they had on display...compared to the Viper, Ford DP car, GTR, etc all on display. Every time we walked by there would be a circle of guys standing around it. Also a lot of them on the road around Daytona and Orlando. They did have one of the original C5R's there, still just as sick as it was the first time it debuted!
On a side note, I did not like the Viper at all...REALLY small inside. The leather seemed nice, ball glove like. The shifter was LITERALLY like a rifle bolt, I mean seriously metal on metal. I've heard that term used when upgrading the P car shifter to something else...but it is NOTHING like this! That seemed really weird, but obviously didn't actually drive the car either, just something that struck me instantly.

LMAO! The 2014 C7 is not a piece of garbage. Of course it is quite less of a car in the eyes of 911 purists, however please take the $50K price difference in consideration. Chevrolet marketed the Vette to a different group of buyer or none would sell at $100K+ price tag.
I would love to own one, if it's free

For those of you who enjoy Chris Harris's reviews, he just did a C7 vs C2S review on Jalopnik at http://jalopnik.com/2014-chevrolet-c...fun-1511802749.
The review seems quite fair to me. I really do love both cars... I just can't talk the wife into us getting both. I think enthusiasts of either car will find things to be quite proud of. I just wish they hadn't used a C2S fully maxed out on options ($60k worth) so that the price difference seems even more dramatic than it normally is.

Well Porsche #39 and 40 will be joined by the C7 Z06, and a stingray convertible for my girlfriend (she does not really get the Porsche thing for the money she would rather have a Ferrari California). It bothers me as much when Ferrari folks call Porsche's toasters as it does when Porsche people call Corvette's junk. I don't get that at all.
