c4s mods questions
c4s mods questions
hello all,
I have a 2007 c4s that's stock right now besides my dension gateway 500. waiting to go on the car I have full exterior LED's, an evoms CAI, afterhours mufflers, fabspeed 200 cell cats, fabspeed chrome tips, 20" black hre 847r's, gt3 brake ducts, and a couple suspension mods.
The suspension mods are a set of bilstein B16 damptronics coilovers with H&R sways. Do you guys think any other suspension mods are absolutely necessary to get the most out of the coilovers/sways (dog bones/drop-links, etc)? I plan on using my stock turbo wheels with a set of hoosier r6's I have for de's and maybe some auto cross. i'll use the hre's as my street tires. is it possible to use the same suspension setup/alignment for two different sets (and diameter) of wheels? would anyone advise against this? my car is my daily driver. are there any other mods you guys would recommend? thanks for reading and any advice.
derek

Lots of questions there, I'll take a stab at a few
1. Suspension mods - consider GT3 lower control arms or aftermarket such as Tarret Engineering. Track or near track setups need lots of negative camber to get rid of understeer. You can go a long way with the stock C2/C4 adjustments but will max it out. GT3 LCA's will let you go farther and get you to neutral steering.
2. Wheel diameter does not matter AS LONG AS the wheel+tire rolling diameter does not change. A 20 inch wheel will have less rubber between it and the road to maintain the same rolling diameter as a 16 inch wheel with lots of rubber, all to maintain the same rolling diameter. With a C4 and all wheel drive this is a must! Different rolling diameters will cause problems with the traction control, ABS, all wheel drive, transmission, etc.
3. Wheel width comes into play with aggressive negative camber. The wider the wheel the more you will wear the inside edge with aggressive camber setups. Wider setups give better grip, corner handling, etc. Other than wear you should be fine.
4. Using a track setup as a DD can work. The biggest problem will be road conditions translating into a rough drive. I have Bilsteins on my C2S, stock everything else, maxed out negative camber. The car drives awesome as a DD! But put the PASM suspension on sport mode and on other than pristine freshly paved highways the ride is too rough.
5. Brake pads should also be considered. You can DD with track pads but they will squeal. It can be embarrassing a bit coming up to a stoplight with a pcar squealing like a $2000 clunker. Most will swap track pads in/out along with wheels.
Check out the forums over on rennlist.com too. Many of the track guys hang out there.
