Intermittent Loud Bass issue

Hi all

Long time lurker first time poster. I have a 997.1 gt3 and every now and then, I hear this very loud "thump" out of the speakers. Sounds like it's the rears. The car has a nav-TV iPod kit, but I don't use it because the sound quality is terrible.

It happens whether I am listening to a cd or the radio. Today the issue also occurred with a loud interference type noise for a couple of seconds.

Have any of you guys had the same issue?

At all volume levels? Or only when loud?

It's at all volume levels...it's the strangest thing. The sound is a considerably loud "thump".

It can happen at a stand still, or while driving, and from what I can tell is not related to going over a bump or anything that would cause a loose ground or cable to move

Loose ground was my first thought. Any chance you could disconnect the iPod kit and try to isolate the problem to OEM parts or aftermarket?

I have to remove the head unit to get at the connection. I think I need to find out where all the most common "loose grounds" are and try to chase it. I tried searching but all the issues with the loose ground seemed to be quite different than my situation.

Gremlins...
