Why no fuel filter? For long term reliability specially whenour engines are very sensitive to fuel quality, shouldnt a filter be there? Can we retrofit a filter before the hpfp and place it whete the 997.1's have it...by the coolant tank? Maybe a brother here has done it...

 

I suspect, but don't know for sure, that the fuel filter is either in the gas tank or part of the high pressure fuel pump...which means it is not a (normal) replaceable item.

 

Mine is a .1 and when I tried to order a fuel filter, I was told that it was inside the tank.

That was 30k miles ago. I should perhaps double check the Service Guide where the fuel filter really is.

 

cab, the 997.1's have this cylindrical item mounted at the sideof the coolant tank….i think this is the fuel filter. i think they only discontinued it with the 997.2's

 

I figured much since I read a DIY once. I tend to order parts that I may need in the future so untried to order it when ordering brake pads and I was told about the filter being in the tank.

I guess it's located at the same location as my Cab SC.

 

many different makes have non serviceable filters ( I guess in the tank)....
Don t know if it s better but I bet it s cheaper.

Just like many ball joints are now sealed and non greaseable , again I guess they d be cheaper to produce.

I certainly wouldn t worry about it.

 

Well, I spent 5 minutes looking around the coolant tank and .... NOTHING that looks like a fuel filter. I am expecting something cylindrical and aluminum in finish but everything on the left side of the engine is black.

 

As others have mentioned, the fuel filter in inside the gas tank and is part of the fuel pump. It does not require periodic replacement as it is designed to last as long as the fuel. Should the fuel pump fail it will include a new fuel filter.

 

So the vendor was correct to say that my 07 c4s has the filter in the tank?

What year did Porsche put the filter in the tank? It seems that there's a lot of confusion about this.

 

997.1 was the first model for this change. 996's and 986's used a conventional bolt on inline filter which are available at most parts suppliers.
