295 vs 305

So in my switch to new wheels, I've been told by a few different people that it would be wise to move my C2S to 305 rears vs the existing 295's. Furthermore, 305 is what the car was designed for...

I'd appreciate any light that can be shed on this.

Aren't 305's for wide bodies (C4/C4S/T4/T4S) and 295's for narrow bodies (C2/C2S)?

put 305s hands down.. Fits perfectly and gives you a little more rubber on the road + looks nice and fat from the rear. 305s are stock on wide body 911s and not on narrows but you can make the switch no problem.

Does going with 305s on a NB throw off the speedometer calibration at all?

I suggest you do a bit more research. The 4s pcars are wider than the 2s to handle the additional rubber. Just because they 'fit' the wheel well doesn't mean they'll clear at speed and dynamic cornering. Good luck !

This is a comparison of the two :

Then my fear with the 305 is that it would look like a higher profile tire due to the overall width and assumed squareness of the tire versus the greater wrap of the 295. Thoughts?

not even 1% variance you should be fine.

3% is the threshold variance.

Not necessarily. My C2S came with Carrera Sport Wheels, which are 11.5 x 19. Being .5 wider than the stock wheels they fit best with 305 tires.

305 tire on a 12" rim is still a bit too shallow.

325 on a 12" is proper.

I just went the other way. I replaced the Michelin PS2's 305's with Conti DWS 295's on wife's '08 C4 widebody. I'd have to see them side by side to see the difference. The conti's are smoother, quieter and longer lasting and less expensive. It is her DD and she doesn't push it. Discount Tire's website says the difference is about 1/2 MPH.
