997 engine bay fan

Hi all, just introduced myself on the intro thread, glad to be here.

I just picked up a 2005 tiptronic C2S Cab with just 35,000 kms (21,000 mls) on the clock in midnight blue, used to own a midnight blue 996 Carrera 4 Cab.

I have an issue I think with the engine bay fan, I have read all the threads on this issue, but I haven't found an answer that helps me.

The engine bay fan never comes on unless the key is in the ignition and the power is on. Some people complain that the fan doesnt stop after the engine is stopped, my issue is the opposite.

When back from a long hot drive, the fan is on, I turn off engine and the fan stops. If i turn the power back on in ten or twenty minutes the fan comes on straight away.

It seems to me that fan wants to be on, but can't without power from the ignition on.

It has just been serviced and I asked this question and the Porsche technicians answer was it has a mind of it's own it does what it needs to do there is no set pattern etc'...

What do you guys think? I am going to have the engine bay temp sensor replaced just in case.

Cheers guys thank for your help!

My 05 has stayed on occasionally when the car is turned off. Presumably to cool to what is deems to be safe.
It's thermally controlled so engine is not deemed too hot if fan is not on.

Yes mine turn off when you turn off engine. However, if it was after a good run, after a while, even without the keys on ignition, the fan turns on by itself. There is a monitoring sustem of the engine compartment temperature for 30 minutes after turning off the engine. If the system deems it too hot, it turn on the fan for a few minutes to bring temp down to threshold.

hmm seems ok then, I have come back from really hot drives but I do park in a cool underground parking space, and the ambient temp outside hasn't been above 28 degrees c (82 f) since I owned the car which is going on two weeks.

X2 My fan turns off nearly all the time when I turn the ignition off. Very occasionally it will stay on or come on, especially when it is 100°F+ outside.

Agree with all of the above, my 2006's fan would generally only come on when the car was off if the outside temp was in the mid 90s or higher.
