997.1 PCM Telephone module

Hello all - I am thinking of fitting the Dension 500S BT to my car.

I currently have the Porsche telephone module and I haven't seen anybody that has been able to make the device work seamlessly with the module still working...

My question is either simple or stupid - where is the phone module located?

Is it a separate unit I can manually bypass on the MOST circuit or is it built into the PCM radio - I know the SIM card goes in here but that doesn't mean the phone module is in there?

Does anybody know? or has anybody successfully fitted the Dension and had it working 100% with PCM phone module working as well?

The phone module on my 08 997 was a box located under the passenger seat. My installer simply removed it. Let me be the first to suggest (many others will second it) that you call or email Eric (eric@bumperplugs.com) at Bumperplugs.com. He sells and supports these units, and there is absolutely nothing he doesn't know about them. He will patiently walk you through every detail of your installation.

I couldn't be more pleased with my unit. It's a great alternative to spending thousands on a new head unit. I have it linked to my iPhone, through which I access maps, music, and phone calls. You'll love it.

Under passenger seat if you have it. If you try and use the phone it will say yay or nay on your nav screen. The Dension 500SBT is a great solution for many things.

Hi all - thanks for the support.
I have it - SIM card is in it now and I can make calls - I am more focussed on the music feature.

Plus my mobile company will be moving to 4g sim cards soon and i will not work.

I will check the passenger seat and see how to bypass the unit in the MSOT circuit..

Thanks all.

I have the phone module and cd changer, and installed the 500S BT recently.

My application is:
- an iPhone4 is physically connected all the time via docking cable, used for music and maps
- an iPhone5 is paired via BT for phone calls

I tried two ways of installations:

1) in the frunk
- wired per the diagram that retains the CD changer (although I don't use it any more)
- works great, music, maps on iPhone 4 via cable and phone calls on iPhone 5 via BT
- the only annoying thing is the "phone not available" message on the PCM after every engine starts. Press ok and the message goes away. Phone calls on my iPhone via bluetooth works just fine.
- I tried unplugging and looping the MOST cable out of the phone module, but it didn't fix the problem. I've been advice that it requires programming by dealer to disable the phone module, which I haven't done yet.

2) installed behind the PCM, per the other diagram.
- CD changer is unplugged and lopped the MOST cable.
- music and maps works well on iPhone 4 via cable
- making a phone call via BT is fine,
- however, although there's NO "phone is not available" message, I was unable to use the call bottons on PCM to accept phone call; and if I accept the call from the phone, the call is defaulted to the phone only. I have to manually switch the call to the 500S BT via BT, then I can hear the caller thru the PCM and talk thru the Densions mic
- unplugging the phone module doesn't help. I don't have another loop connector, but will order another to see if looping (not just unplugging) the MOST out of the phone module will resolve the problems.

I'm not located in US so did not order from Eric (warranty issue). The install is not difficult but you should order from some one who provides supports, as different set up and different firmware gives different results.

Thanks guys - I also don't live in the US so bumper plugs is not an option - or I would have ordered from them directly.

the US price when I add import tax is significantly higher than if i buy here (Germany)

Hi SimonCPW - I am trying to achieve what you want - device working with the PCM functionality for the phone but without the annoying error message.

Not sure if anybody has achieved this yet...
I am sure you shouldn't get Porsche to disable the phone module in the PCm - if you do this you would lose the in dash support and functionality.

What do you mean by in dash support? I have the Denison with no phone module and can still use all the tel functions on the PCM.

No, maps won't show on PCM screen, but the audio for direction go thru PCM.

OP - I ended up ordering mine from Dension directly. My 2nd installation did avoided the error message. I'll update if using the loop cable to remove the phone module will resume the PCM phone buttons functionality for the iPhone via BT.

Hi Phil - so you can make and answer a call using the stalk on the steering wheel/buttons on the steering wheel?

That I can't answer as I don't have the tel module turned on in the instrument cluster. But I will turn it on and try it and let you know. All the tel controls on the PCM head unit do work.

Quick update...

I received the additional loop cable.... so the phone module is physically bypassed now and the results are not perfect:
- the call answer and drop buttons are working now and the call is now sent to the 500S BT without having to switch manually
- but the "phone is not available" came back after every Engine start, although everything still works fine and the message goes away after pressing the OK button.

So, back to square one for me.

FWIW I don't have the tel module, but I activated the phone in the instrument cluster and gateway and now I can answer and end calls with the steering wheel stalk, but although I can browse the phone book I can't make calls with the steering wheel stalk.
