Passenger side - Rear view mirror - Issue
Hi all , My passenger side rear view mirror doesn’t seem to be functioning correctly and I;m wondering if any of you may have feedback.
So , when putting the car in reverse , the passenger side rear view mirror automatically tilts down to assist in viewing when parallel parking. This is very useful. The problem I am experiencing is that 90% of the time it will remain in that downward tilted position and I can’t adjust it with the **** on the drivers door. Then , maybe the next day [ or maybe not] , it magically is back to normal after starting the car.
Am I doing something wrong?
Has anyone experienced this. { it’s an 07 Targa 4S }

Hi, For my vehicle, i need to turn the **** to the right , basically as what is mentioned in the owners manual.
My problem is that it stays pointing down afterwards. driving over 6mph or turning the **** to the drivers position doesn't do anything , the mirror stays pointed down.
Also, when this happen , I can't adjust the drivers side mirror wit the ****. [it stays down position always] , which is not usefull

Drivers side mirror shouldn't tilt down when in reverse - is that what is happening? Since you can't adjust your drivers side mirror with the rotary ****, I'd suspect the rotary switch is bad or going bad.
Sorry, drivers side mirror is fine. I meant to say that when the passenger mirror stays in the down position , I am not able to adjust the mirror at all with the round ****. so it doesn't come up automatically , and, I can;t use the **** to bring it up either.

With mine, I leave the **** turned toward the passenger mirror all the time, except when I need to adjust then driver's side. I remember it took some fiddling around to figure it out, along with reading that section of the manual again. My guess is you need to fiddle with it some more. It's possible that there's a PCM setting for it, but I can't recall. It sounds like a setting, rather than a broken part. Good luck.

If the in-cockpit joystick had failed, then OP would be unable to move either mirror. If the selector for the right mirror wasn't working he wouldn't be able to make any right mirror adjustment, but it sounds like only up has failed so that can't be it either. It seems to me it either has to be the motor or the tabs that engage the motor are stripped when run fully out. If you can physically push the mirror back up a little and it engages and works, then it is likely the pieces that engage the motor to move the mirror around. If that doesn't help then it is likely the motor.
Looking online here: http://www.gaudinporscheparts.com/au...e-mirrors-scat it appears the parts aren't terribly expensive (as long as you don't have autodimming side mirrors) and I'd make a wild-assed-guess that it is one of the two things I mention above. Of course, it's not my money, but I'd try to see if I could determine which of the things above is likely and just buy the appropriate replacement part to see if it fixes it (just like the dealer's service department often likes to do!) and if not, try the other part.
Edit: If you go this route, I found the removal instructions for the mirror referenced here: http://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-b...removal-2.html

Excellent post StormRune, rep points for you!
I agree with your assessment that it may be the motor's teeth at that lowered angle. The passenger mirror works fine when it is used normally, it is only in the reverse mode where it gets stuck. When you push it back in place, it works just fine... until you use the reverse mode again.
Ironically, I've just sold the car today and got a 991 (I fly in and pick it up tomorrow in KY, I live in MN, looking forward to the drive home). I'll offer the new buyer free labor to fix/replace the motor if he pays for parts.
Thanks again for the post.

Man... you must have really hated that mirror problem to sell the car over it!
But in all seriousness, congrats on the new 991. I'll keep an eye out in that forum to see what you've grabbed. Best wishes for a great ride home!

I klnow my 09 has a function that if left in passenger position. Then you put car in reverse that there is a feature called curb finder where the mirror drops all the way down so ur able to avoid the curb or rim rash. To get out of the mode you reposition the **** to center or take vehicle out of reverse. If it still persist then more than likely it is something that has been previously stated.
