Window doesn't raise anymore: $1000 estimate by dealer
Hi,
My passenger side window stopped raising/closing on my 2006 997 (after making some grinding noise and having to raise it manually to drive home). Dealer in Manhattan wants $1000 for the job, split as $275 in parts and the rest in labor. This seems exorbitantly high so wanted to check in here before going ahead/looking for other options
thank you

Ridiculous price.
1) Check the fuse
2) remove the door skin (easy)
3) Check the regulator cables etc
4) Check the window motor
Probably the regulator is toast.
I bought a used one on eBay for ~$80.
Easy DIY job.
Just make sure that you put painters tape on the inner metal door skin where it will touch the side skirt of the car. (As me how I know).
If they were to do the labor for $300, and would use your supplied part, I might be tempted to use them. Otherwise, NO WAY.
Good luck w/ it.

Agreed! Just replaced my passenger regulator for $80 (thank you eBay) and about 30 minutes of time to R&R the door panel. Just make sure to buy a regulator that is for the same vehicle and has the same part #.
Sounds like a good time to get aquainted with taking apart your door panel. I had the same problem with my 996. A cheap part on eBay and an hour later and I was back in business.

Actually, it's more likely the fact that it is used less, is the reason it broke first in this case.
Exactly! USE these things.
