8 yr recommended service
8 yr recommended service
Hi All, Ive been using this site since i purchased my car a year ago. I introduced myself then and added a few pics ( will do so again if you'd like ) Search has been my friend and i appeciate all the info.
My 2006 C2S is now 8yrs old and has 60,000 kms (37000 miles) and its time for a service. I've just moved to a new city and have found a few indy shops that i'm checking out.
I asked what recommended service i would require and the estimate is below. They say to replace the water pump as recommended by Porsche (true?) I know there may be issues with it but do i replace it just in case?
I do have an aftermarket warranty and i want to make sure that i don't void anything by not following porsche guidelines.
I'll also state that i'm not a very handy fella but i really think im getting killed with labor costs on this estimate.

I agree with all the items you listed, but man are those prices high (even for Canada). Can't you DIY any of this? Go over to Rennlist and check out their 997 DIY section. They have threads that will show you how to do an engine oil and filter change as well as your cabin air and engine air filters. This would save you quite a bit of money. I can do an engine oil and filter change for around $70 and that is using Mobil 1 5W-50 and a Mahle OX 128/D filter which I bought on Amazon. Paying over $250 for a cabin and engine air filter change is just insane.
I would suggest you replace your drive belt since it will be off for the water pump replacement. Consequently they shouldn't charge you any extra labor for the install. I think I paid just over $40 (US) for an OEM belt from Suncoast Porsche. Porsche recommends replacing the drive belt every 6 years or 60K miles, so you are due especially if you are running the original one.
Also, when was the last time your spark plugs were changed? Porsche recommends every 4 years or 60K miles, but there are many who say changing them every 4 years is too often. It's up to you. This is something I can DIY, so I am in it for only $55 for the cost of the plugs (Bosch FGR-5-KQE0). I would recommend you leave this up to your mechanic if you aren't good with a wrench (but do try the oil and filter changes as they are no brainers).
Regarding the water pump, many people recommend changing it preemptively due to premature failure of the plastic impeller inside. I think that is smart. You don't want your car to overheat and cause damage. The price for repairing/replacing one of these engines is obscene. My water pump failed at 17K miles so if you are still running the original one you are probably on borrowed time. The price they quoted you seems high. If memory serves me correctly, my replacement ran somewhere around $900, but that was some time ago.

and I have a 2006 C2S too. so same major service for me
oil change and other stuff part of it (I paid)
they changed the spark plugs (I paid)
found each coil pack to be cracked (under CPO, $80 x 6)
tierod were loose (CPO, about $1000-$1200)
replace front tire (due to bad tie rod, I paid, $900)
alignment due to tie rod(CPO, about $150)
cabin noise due to a plastic (CPO, $50)
mechanic preferred black bolt for my turbo wheels, replaced under CPO as original were a little rusty (LOL)
free lunch (took the a full day to do everything)
so yeah, to me, dealer only when under CPO

I totally agree. Do your own oil and filters changes. You can leave the rest for the Indy, but I would shop around for better prices.

I agree with the ridiculous prices.... I've looked up some of the parts too and can't believe the mark up they're hitting me with.
I don't have CPO as was mentioned but i do have a warranty, wondering myself what I can get covered if they happen to find any issues. I will definitely let the shop ( probably not this one ) know that there is a warranty though.
Anyone else claimed anything that was found while getting routine maintenance on an aftermarket warranty?
Definitely going to shop around for another shop although I don't have a lot of choices. No dealer in town either and the closest one is 3 hours away.

Only thing that might be covered under warranty is the water pump and then only if it is defective. As for the prices... WOW !!!!!
