I took my '06 C2S Cab with 25k miles to the shop for routine service and inquired about Extended Warranty. The dealership uses EasyCare and recommended TotalCare because of the extent of its coverage. Although I hear the point of view that you can fix things out of pocket, I think there's a peace of mind knowing you're covered.

Anyway, for a $250 deductible, the rates quoted for TotalCare were as follows:
12/12k $2981
24/24k $4865
36/36k $5984
48/50k $8720.

I also need to get a warranty inspection for $160 and assume that if anything is identified, I need to fix before getting warranty coverage. I know the rates for other warranty companies are much less expensive, but am curious additional advice on this topic. Thanks for your thoughts and time.

My line of thought on this is; that it will not hurt you to have at least a year of some kind of warranty remaining on your car IF you decide to sell it. It seems that this would help sway any buyer looking at 2 like vehicles. Anyway, I am buying one next month (probably 3 yr) as I know I will not keep the car that long and when it comes time to sell, there will be some remaining warranty for the next owner and that does = a little peace of mind. I have not decided on Fidelity, Easycare or CNA, but figure pricing will be not too bad since I have factory warranty remaining and less than 8k miles on the car.

How much are you planning on driving the car? You are probably not the first owner but the car is averaging a little over 3k miles per year. Would it makes sense to pay $8720 for what may work out to 12k miles of driving? $2981 for a year where you may put in a little over 3k miles is nuts.

If you were going to max out miles things make a little more sense but it all comes down to what you are comfortable with.

Try to negotiate for more time and less miles. I got the exclusionary coverage from Endurance and paid $2800 for a 4 year 25 k miles.

So it sounds like most people here would say go with doing extended warranty instead of CPO (?)

CPO is better than extended warranty. It's almost as good as the original Porsche factory warranty.

I don't mean to confuse you further, but most people here IMO have low mileage cars with CPO or extended warranty already part of the purchase price.

The question should be: "if the owner paid for the insurance, is the owner ahead of the game?"

Or, "is the ROI worth the insurance?"

Or, "knowin what you know now, would you have bought the insurance?"

I myself has been self-insured (no extended warranty). Outside of the warranty, it was just the AOS that failed. So far, in my casual computation, I am $2,400.00 ahead of the game.

But don't listen to me as I am mechanically inclined.

I will just never understand spending thousands of $$$$ for a warranty....or even home appliances, etc. if I HAD to buy one, I suppose I would only do an engine/trans type warranty with a higher deductible. other than that, I typically do all my own mechanicals as its a hobby.

07 997.1 TT Tip- 25k miles still under CPO till early next yr- recently got Fidelity Platinum warranty from Sunset Porsche in Oregon via phone call- $4300 for 6 yr, 60k addt'l miles, $250 deductible- Call their fin mgr to ck pricing-
If going for extended warranty i'd look at the platinum which is exclusionary type- says what it does not cover- where the power train & others cover only what they state-
I've had Fidelity platinum on previous 02' 996C2 - it paid for RMS replacement & some addt'l minor items- helped with resale last yr- but i did not have repairs that covered cost of warranty- did have peace of mind over IMS issue for 6 yrs though- currently have Fidelity Platinum on wife's 07 Boxster S- that i bought used while still under factor warranty- has paid for 3-4 minor items (window regulator, inside door handle mechanism ,etc) w/o any issues. hope this helps

I guess this means, "The House Wins Again!"

I bet the insurance company got reimbursement from the Porsche settlement. Anyone knows?
