Extended warranty ???

Hi everyone, I'm looking for opinions on getting an extended warranty. I've done some research on the forums but what I'm wondering is:

1. Did you get an extended warranty?
2. Where did you purchase it from?
3. Which warranty did you buy? (3 years, 4 years, silver, gold, etc)
4. Roughly how much did you pay?
5. Have you used the warranty?
6. Looking back, do you feel purchasing the warranty was worth it ?

I still have 1 year left if my factory warranty so I'm not sure if that helps me in any way when looking to buy an extended warranty. My understanding is that none of the extended warranty options are actually from Porsche, they are all 3rd party.

Do some research and you'll find that Fidelity is the popular choice. Most people buy it from the Finance MGR at the Porsche dealer that they feel most comfortable with, however you can buy from any brand dealer so long as they sell the warranty YOU want.

That's all I can contribute since my good friend (Porsche Tech) and I DIY everything and I am comfortable without a warranty.

I'm practically on the same boat as you are but only I have only 6mos left on my CPO. I understand the 2 most reputable insurance companies out there that cover Porsches are Fidelity and EasyCare. I've gotten 2 quotes from Porsche dealers(below). Note the price vary quite a bit by mileage and by state. You get a big price break if you have less than 30k miles. I have 42k on mine. And it helps to do it before your current warranty expires.

I'm very curious on what type of responses you'll get here. My guess is, it will be mixed. Some people will have more success than others. But it's definitely worth it for peace of mind.

Hope this helps.

EasyCare:
TOTALCARE GOLD – 24 MONTHS 24,000 MILES W/$500 DEDUCTIBLE = $4002
30 MONTHS 30,000 MILES W/$500 DEDUCTIBLE = $4235
36 MONTHS 36,000 MILES W/$500 DEDUCTIBLE = $4814
48 MONTHS 50,000 MILES W/$500 DEDUCTIBLE = $6815

Fidelity:

Platinum with $250 ded
3y/36,000=$3900
4y/48k=$5100
5y/60k=$6200

Am I the only few who don't buy extended warranty and keep their cars long after original warranty expired? I undersand the peace of mind thing because I used get extended warranty for my Mercedes. But at some point it will run out and what do you guys do? A major repair is still cheaper than buying a new $100K car. Owning a car is like owning a house, maintenance and repair happens. Not critizing anyone here but just curious how other deal with this.

06 C2s,
bought a fidelity powertrain warranty.

haven't found anyone having IMS issue on 2006 and up here, but that $2400 makes me sleep like a baby.

I just purchased CNA for my 2011 C4S as it is hitting 40K miles. 4 Years/ 80K miles for about $3,300. $100 deductible.

Found Rick through "the other board". He is at a Porsche dealership (out of state for me) and was great to deal with.

No John. Not the only one. I was offered 3 years for 3.2K$ 4 years ago by dealer and declined. Saved 3.2k$. On the other hand if you are one of the unlucky few it must be a warm and fuzzy feeling. That's the story on insurance isn't it? Like the House the Ins Co's are playing the odds and they always win.

Most warranties are pro-rated (and refundable) or transferable if you sell your car. There's really no reason not to shop around for the best price and buy one for peace of mind. My last A6 4.2 ran up $6K in repairs in the one year I owned it (sunroof, leaking coolant pipes) and I was glad I had the $3K warranty. I even got $2K back when I sold it.

Great. There's that warm fuzziness. If you are in the car for the duration though, as John has said, at some point you will have to accept a certain amt of risk anyway. I'm at 8.5 years and 40K miles. Warranty has been out of the question for quite a while. No problems (having said this I am probably doomed you realize). Spend a lot on maintenance though. Guess we both won. So far anyway

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm really just not sure if I should get one or not. Usually on the past, I've always said that extended warranty's are a waste of money. But this is my first porsche and I have heard the porsche repairs can be really expensive. Which is why I'm thinking about doing it in the first place. I just want to make sure that stuff will actually be covered if I get the warranty.

I guess the way im looking at it is: if I can pay 3,000-4,000 once and then not have to worry about any major cost over (1,000) for the next 4 years, then it's worth it to me. But if I pay the 4,000 and still have to pay for repairs then I'll feel like it was a waste.

It would be nice to have at least 2-3 years of protection when you first buy the car. My experience is only with Mercedes extended warranty and not aftermarket ones. I would check with your local Porsche service dept. and find out what they accept before you buy anything. Many of the repairs need to be done at the dealer. People used to tell me Mercedes are crazy expensive to repair. But after owning numerous of them since 1995, it hasn't been that bad at all. Of course now I probably jinxed myself

I will just never understand spending thousands of $$$$ for a warranty....or even home appliances, etc. if I HAD to buy one, I suppose I would only do an engine/trans type warranty with a higher deductible. other than that, I typically do all my own mechanicals as its a hobby.

good luck.

Hey guys, I'm still undecided about the warranty =\

Is there anyone on here who has actually used the extended warranty for repairs ?

I purchased a platinum $100 deductible warranty from Fidelity for 7 years/70K miles for about $3K for 2008 C2S. The important thing is to purchase the warranty before the factory warranty expires and before the car reaches 10K miles.
