Time for my 1st oil change...

Hi all,

The car has had a few of changes already but I've put about 3,000 miles on it since I bought it so it's time for me to do the first oil change. I am planning to take it to the Porsche dealership this time. (Maybe independent shop in the future)

My question is: If I bring it in for an oil change, what else do they do? - Inspection? Wash/detail? Also what's the approximate cost for a dealership oil change ?

The dealership I'm thinking of going to is Stevens creek Porsche in Santa Clara, Ca. And my car is a 2011 Carrera S

My dealer charges about $225 for the oil change.

You did not ask however i'm encouraging you to do it yourself. Not to save money but to have the satisfaction of managing some routine maintenance.

The forum sponsors sell everything you need. I do my oil changes in the driveway with no ramps or jacks.

Check out a few youtube instructionals?

Congrats on the car too .

I wouldn t waste the $ on an oil change at a 3000 mile interval (if that s what you are saying).... IMO.
As stated above, depending on the cars miles they may try and sell you other stuff like drain cleaning (which is important but do able yourself). It can get expensive if they do that. Some do it yourself stuff is the way to go if you feel inclined to do so.
I posted two DIY posts, one on the oil change and the other on a brake fluid flush.

I'm in the Bay Area as well. Personally, I prefer Gunter over at Porsche of Fremont. You'll get a pca discount and he's a great guy with a good team.

I would skip any detail and wash as I prefer to do it correctly myself.

Any other service depends on the mileage and age.

Most of the reason why I am planning to go to the dealer is so they can also do an inspection. Just want to make sure everything is good before my factory warranty expires. But I was wondering if that's included with all services like an oil change or if they would charge me extra.

They shouldn't charge you anything to look it over. They would like to find something to fix under warranty. You should definitely have it looked over before the warranty is up, but you probably don't really need an oil change. I change mine every 5k miles.

do it yourself. easier than any other car. Don't even need to jack it up Just back it up to the edge of your garage where it hangs over a couple of inches. caution...oil comes out hot and fast.

What do you do with the oil? Cause you can't just throw it away.

Recyling operations generally have reclaimed oil depositories.

My local auto stores have oil recycling. Try Auto Zone or Discount Auto Parts.

The only downside to changing the oil on these cars is the filter wrench. I have one from some previous car that fits but the porsche ones are about $30.00. yOu can probably get it with a strap type, though.
