Anyone have sound deadening material with an audio install?
I bought a911 used that has an aftermarket head unit, amp, and speakers. The previous owner also mentioned the shop put sound deadening material in the car.
I know it's mostly meant for reducing rattles when playing music, but I'm wondering if it dampens the engine/exhaust noise when the window is up?
I've got a Fister modded muffler and it's nice and loud when I have the windows down, but pretty quiet inside. I actually like having engine/exhaust noise piped into the cabin and I'm wondering if I should try to remove the sound deadening material myself. I have no idea if it's just in the doors or anywhere else.
Anyone have insight?

Shouldn't make a big difference. Unless you have one of those $100k magazine showcase audio installs, where they remove the seats and all trim panels and dynamat every last metal surface, they probably just dampened the door panels only. I doubt the exhaust note is coming through there. And as you say, the sound dampening panels don't really block sound, they just reduce the vibration noise from metal panels (and reduce the resonance frequency). But who knows, maybe they went all-out with the dampening sheets.
We had a nice day in SF today and holy **** I love the Fister muffler above 5k
