I'm wondering...if we already have the short shift kit can we just buy the metal bushings and make it just like a gt3 feel?

I have OEM SSK and am very happy with the shifting. I only worry about the cables breaking and leaving me stranded some day. If I were going to upgrade, I would go with the Numeric SSK and especially the cables. This thread is pretty convincing to me...

You read my mine but I have been quiet about it. I saw the comparison pic at Suncoast and I will investigate if that could be replaced easily with a hardware from, say, HomeDepot.

I am just waiting for the alignment tool before I can tear down the console.

I am afraid not. For starters, the bushings are not available separately. Second, you need the actual GT3 transmission. I just installed the GT3 shift block and it feels nowhere same as GT3 shifter.

Hope that helps.

I wondered how much AND assumed the GT3 transmission played a role in the feel. I installed the 997.2 GT3 shifter in my 997.2 S last year (kept my stock cables, 12k miles). It is a DEFINITE improvement over stock...but it's nothing like a GT3 RS. I sat in a .2 RS the other day and rowed the box a little, it actually did feel like the proverbial "rifle bolt" that everyone likes to throw around. Reminded me of the new Viper shifter, like metal on metal, direct mechanical shifting. I didn't realize that sort of feel was even possible in a rear engine car!!

The OEM shifter upgrade is certainly worth it in my opinion. Everyone that drives my car comments on it right away. Cup cables would probably improve it a little more, but that GT3 trans has to play a huge role in that mechanical feel. Consider the dumb carbon fiber and leather crap people put in their cars for $800 or $1800 or more, the oem 997.2 gt3 shifter offers a great return...something that actually improves the tactile feel at every single shift!

It appears that everyone thus far is talking about replacing the stock shifter unit with a GT3 unit, along with tightening the cables or getting the Numeric One. Has any one considered just getting Function First's transmission mounts? It should tighten up the transmission and gives you that tight "rifle bolt" action feeling that we are looking for.

I have considered the teams mount unit. I also understand that though it may help, the unit may also introduce noise/vibration.

I really think that the cables, much like the older air-cooled Porsches, will stretch over time and they would require tightening. It just hasn't been discussed often enough here since the cars here are still pretty low mileage -- relatively speaking.

I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I check mine. If the adjustment doesn't help, I'll try the newer tran mount.

I have tried both Function First's track and street transmission mounts, and the street version will give you the solid and crisp shifting sensation w/o transmission noise, while the track version will give you that rifle-bolt action sensation, but at the expense of some transmission noise. I likened the transmission noise to what you would hear in a GT3.

Having a hard time understanding how transmission mounts would give that crisp feel when shifting car just sitting still?? I understand when you're driving hard all that stuff is flexing around back there changing some geometry, but that crisp feel in a GT3 RS is in the mechanics of the transmission and linkage. Not that it matter so much when you're sitting STILL, but just saying there are other forces at work in the 3 that are not present in our cars.

I agree with you in that the transmission mounts does not give that crisp feel when sitting still, but while in motion, it does give you a more crisp and direct feeling, like a gated shift. The harder you drive, the more secure it feels while shifting, especially the track version.
