GoPro?

I am thinking about finally getting a Gopro. I just want a simple setup that takes hd video/audio which I can transfer to my Mac. I also need to get a mount (non windshield mount) does anyone have an rec's on a good GoPRo model and mount?

I need to find a mount that I can easily position somewhere behind me in my 911 and can also be used to somehow attach to my rollbar in my shelby cobra.

GoPro makes a roll bar mount that works very well. I use it my GTI track car with an AutoPower cage.

As for the 911 mount, I've experimented with a few:
-Suction cup back window
-Suction cup front window
-Suction cup back of passenger seat with an articulated arm
-Adhesive mount to helmet

Out of all of them, I've had the best luck with the helmet mount. Only downfall is the field of view moves a lot when you turn your head or lean from the cornering G's (or maybe I just have a heavy melon?). I just ordered the tow hook mount from Rennsport which I'll be trying at my next event.

Here's a link to my helmet mount:

Here's a link to a Rennsport "like" setup on a buddy's GT-R:

Some people will even tell you an external suction cup mount is good too. However, they have a tendency to come loose on occasion... as you can see in my video (debris on track at entrance to Oak Tree is most definitely a GoPro Hero3 Black Edition )

As for which camera, GoPro announced today the Hero 4. A Hero3 or Hero4 will absolutely meet your needs. Just compare the specs/features. In fact my Hero2 works just fine for me.

I think the Hero 3+ silver edition is the best bang for the buck right now. It shoots 1080p at 60 fps. Most of us have no need for 4k video right now and your phone with the gopro app works better than a remote and a screen on the back of the camera.

Don't bother going with the remote for the GoPro. The smart phone apps work great to control the GoPros remotely.

I run a GP3Black using a rollbar mount, Rennline tow-hook mount (I ran it for the first time at RA this weekend and the tow-hook turned 30 degrees. I need to rework the mount b/c it doesn't allow the tow hook to tighten very well w/the camera mount installed), and suction cup on the roof or windshiedl. All different viewpoints that look good.

I need to look into the helmet mounts. Those shots look very cool.

I have a hero black 3+ works great. I use a suction cup mount on the front windshield. I would like to play around with it and see if I can get a shot from the back window so you can see my shifts, steering etc.

Marco - how did you get the mph to appear on the upper left of you video?

I'm getting ready to sell my GoPro 2 Motorsport model with rollbar mount, and case. Haven't tracked in quite some time, and I haven't used it on drives as I thought I would. I have the unit, wifi, and extended battery plus other bits. I need to do some research on pricing. If interested, PM me.

Ya get 3 or Black Edition. Most of us pedestrian computer owners can't edit anything over 30 fps without it taking forever and being very clunky. Actually I shoot most of the on car stuff at 720 30 just so I can import and edit in a reasonable amount of time. And I have a reasonably fast laptop.

I shot this on 1080. it appears crystal clear on my laptop but when I uploaded it to youtube it gets all fuzzy. any thoughts on how to correct this?

HWY 58 Run - YouTube

Not sure if my vid looks any better to you but this was shot in 720p 30 frames (again for ease of editing). I do export to an AVI file, THEN upload to youtube....seems to come out a little better than using the built in youtube client and uploading directly from the editor. But, the video you uploaded is by far the toughest video type to get looking good on youtube...it's a constantly changing background trees with millions of leaves and stick being rendered in each frame. Notice in my video how backing out of the garage is crystal clear (not much background changing), then it gets more pixilated and blurry on the driving shots...that's the crux of digital video. Also, someone told me once that your uploaded video actually gets better after a few hours of being uploaded, that youtube continues to render it and improve it. The broadcasters and companies like GoPro pay for extra bandwidth to highly enhance their channels. Here's my clip...

That's definitely a compression issue. I edit my stuff in iMovie then export to MP-somethingorother then upload to YouTube. Looks like different compression engines have differing performance.

Either way, I've never been able to get the remarkably beautiful results from my GoPro that I see online all the time. I especially have issues with flutter in the background. Maybe I need to update the firmware again...
