Daytime Running Lights

I have a 2008 911S with the Sport Chrono Package Plus. The Individual Memory function does not allow me to turn off the daytime running lights. The option shows up on the PCM screen but it is checked off and greyed out so I can't access this function. Were these cars set up from the factory this way or is something wrong with my PCM? I know that Canadian DOT requires cars have to have the lights on all the time but this is a USA car.

You have to be parked to make the DRL changes in the PCM.

Thank you for the reply jhbrennan, but the car is parked with the engine running when I try to change the DRL feature. The dealer just installed a new PCM and it appears it wasn't programmed correctly but I don't know that for sure. I hate to take it back until I get more information.

Maybe dealer turned on the "Canadian over-ride" - if such a thing exists. On US cars you/user should be able to use PCM/Sport Chrono to make individual selection changes. Are the other individual selections available to you - door locks, etc.?

The other options within the Individual Memory function properly. When I selected the Running Lights option it showed up in grey with the box checked, leaving me unable to access and change. This happened with Key #1 and Key #2. The lights were off until I opened the Individual Memory and selected Lights.

I've replied before to similar posts: Why on earth would you want to be LESS visible and therefore LESS safe???

There are none of us here that "want" to be LESS visible or LESS safe. Most of us however, do want our cars to function properly and as they were intended to. As a CPO car with very low mileage this is certainly my expectation. Flaws discovered at resale time can result in lower value. Safety and visibility are always important priorities yet are not issues of consideration in regard to my reasons for seeking information pertaining to functionality.

Being LESS visible to law enforcement vehicles is a good thing....

Not that I'd label myself as a libertarian (small 'l') but up to the point that daytime running lights become a law, whether or not someone wants to be less visible and less safe is none of my business. That said, my DRLs are enabled, not because I want to be more visible but because I just don't care whether they are on or off. How this may or may not impinge on the exterior look of my car looks is irrelevant to me.

That aside, as a data point, I am able to turn the DRLs on or off through the stalk on my 997.2. The Sports Chrono should also allow you to do this so I think it may be a programming issue.

OP's question was about 997.1 which only had user option for DRL's on Sport Chrono equipped cars. 997.2 without Sport Chrono could still set DRL by using the dash OBC and the left hand stalk.

Most of us 997.1 guys have upgraded to DRL front Led's and would prefer to run just the LED's and not the Xenons during daytime...
Under "Individual Memory" I have an option to check off "DRL" but nothing happens, xenons stay on. I even tried this while car was parked!

Would love to know if theres a way to turn Xenon's off!

Canadian requires DRL and without re-wiring your individual memory options won't change it.

I'm in Canada and I've bought 2 US cars. First one was a 2006 C2S and I was the thirds owner. Second owner is the one that imported the car and he brought it to the dealership to enable the DRLs even though he could have done it himself since it had sport chrono. Dealership charged him $500 and disabled the ability to turn them off - the option was greyed out. Current car is 09 Turbo and I enabled DRL myself in 30 seconds and passed the inspection with no problems. I'm sure the dealer can turn the option back on and HOPEFULLY free of charge.

Perfect that makes sense.
