PDK abrupt downshift from 2nd to 1st

I just traded and older model 911 with Tiptronic for a 2009 C2S Cab with PDK. I've only had the car for a couple of days but I'm experiencing something very disconcerting when driving in Sport mode. The upshifts are all very smooth as I would expect. The downshifts are smooth as well until I have to come to a complete stop and the PDK downshifts from 2nd to 1st. Immediately after downshifting to 1st the car "jerks" suddenly as if I had punched the brakes.

I'm hoping that someone on this forum with more experience than me with the PDK can tell me if this is "normal" or if I should have the dealer take a look at it. A few years ago I had an Audi S5 that did something very similar and the dealer's answer was "that's the way the transmission works". I sure hope that is not the case with the PDK. It really takes the fun out of driving in Sport mode when I have to worry about that downshift from 2nd to 1st every time I hit a stoplight. It doesn't happen unless I'm in Sport mode or Sport Plus.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

I have the same exact issue on my car. I read somewhere on this or the other forum that there is a software update that would eliminate this issue. Im planning on taking my car soon to the dealer before the CPO expires. I think is PDK Calibration 1328 CEZM.

Thanks Robo. I found that thread and it looks like there is a software update that can be applied. The dang thing is that it didn't happen at all on the way into work this morning and I was in sport mode the whole way. So I'll just have to monitor it I guess and if it starts happening more regularly I'll look in to the update.

This happens on my dad's boxster S 2014 as well. He never noticed it, but I did one time when I drove it. I noticed it happens when you really slam on the brakes quick and the car quickly has to downshift all the way down to 1st.

Well, after driving it for a few days it seems like I can control it by feathering the brake just right as I'm coming to a stop. It seems the combination of the PDK downshifting from 2nd to 1st with my foot on the brake was what caused the jerking motion. Still might look into that software update though..

Yes, the brake is definitely connected electronically with the PDK. It's a complex electronic system that works together.

I don't own a PDK car so I have no expertise in how it works, but wouldn't the strong engine braking of 1st gear create this sudden jerk? especially when your foot is off the gas pedal.

I imagine this jerk can be eliminated if the PDK computer slips the clutch. My GTI with DSG slips the clutch in "D" mode, but switching to manual mode seems to engage the clutch all the way, and I get a big jerk in 1st gear.
