Nice find. I just don't understand all the hype on the IMS potential failure.
Esp, as its not all that expensive to repair. ive not met a single owner yet whos replaced one.

Nice to see per the poll, the 911 beats out a 10 year old corolla by ~4%.

I was under the impression that the IMS bearing failure would cause the engine to basically grenade and thus be extremely expensive. Am I incorrect?

That info does not tell you enough. There is a big difference between 5% of cars with catastrophic engine failures and 15 % of cars needing a new alternator or master cylinder.

How are 6-7YO Mazda2 2% vs 911 10.5% and 8-9YO Rav4 6% vs 911 11.5% worst...

true seems a little skewed by the fact that an ims issue is a lot more costly... but on the bright side there are alternatives to addressing IMS depending on model year. and yes i own a "problematic" 05.

No, you're correct. Those failures are rare (less than 5%) but there are plenty documented and they seem to happen without much or any warning. Early -05 cars seem most vulnerable with the risk tapering off with -06 through -08 cars.
